Anybody have any idling problems (or anything for that matter) on they're stock LS1 after installing a BlackWing intake system? Should a smooth coupler used w/ the "Wing" to further enhance its performance?
Any help is always appreciated. Going on a 800+ mile trip next month so hoping I can get a wee bit higher mileage w/ a better air intake setup.
I installed a smooth coupler and a velocity stack behind my blackwing. Neither has caused any problems over the past 3 yrs since installed. The trip mileage is great depending on whether or not I run into headwinds.
I also installed Ti exhausts to help with the overall flow.
Mine came with one on it,,I added Corsa touring and it runs great.. At the Mid West Nationals Valvoline used my car for they're dyno display. They did 13 runs(3 the first time then 5 more sets of 2) The ECM "learned" to run at WOT , adjusted the WOT air fuel and it picked up 15 hp and 20 pound ft from the first set to the last sets(hp from 323..51 to 338.92---tq from 324.76 to 345.91) Big thing is DON'T OVER OIL the material. Then take it ti test and tune night at the strip and give it a bunch of WOT runs and feel the difference! Right after the dyno Gateway International had a test and tune night and my final pass was 13.08/110.23 on stock run flats(and this was the first time out with this car, just bought it in Jan) enjoy your car!!
Make sure you double check everything to make sure it is "sealed" up good...meaning the clamps are correct, the coupler is properly on the throttle body. I have seen people have a loose connection at some point, or not have the Maf hooked up right and it will cause problems. Also if you somehow got oil on the Maf sensor or touched those wires, they are very sensitive and could cause the car to run rough if they are screwed up.
