Hey everyone, I'm looking at purchasing a Z and found exactly what I wanted. I talked to the guy and he said it's perfect minus a few minor rock chips and an oil issue. He said when the HUD says the oil's got 20% left on mileage, he has to add 1/3 of a pint. Is he burning/leaking oil or is this normal? It's an '02 Z with 27k on it. Thanks for the advice, it doesn't seem like a big issue but I wanted further clarification.
If he drives it like mine, 20% remaining probably translates to about 6000 miles. 1/3 of a pint for 6000 miles is very little consumption. I usually have to add about 1/2 quart per 8000 miles. My car is a 2002 C5Z with 37000 miles. I would say that is normal oil consumption and everything is fine.
My 02 Z, which I bought new, will use a little oil between changes if I run it hard.
We are talking less than a full quart, and I change mine long before the computer is telling me 20% - I disregard that and change the oil at 5k miles while using Royal Purple.
You are essentially describing < 1/2 quart of oil consumption in the duration of one oil change.
Nothing to worry about.
(oh - and the HUD does not show percentage of oil use left - that is the Drivers Information Center - DIC - in the odometer window.)
