Pre gapped at 040 I believe, great plugs! no need to gap unless you want to check the 040

2000 FRC here--Parts store book is ".040,no variation".I used it and it runs GREAT!! Most of mine needed a little tweak,,Make sure you adjust the ground strap from the side...DO NOT force anything between the center electrode and the ground you will damage the plug!!

I just looked in the manual and it says 0.060. I got NGK iridiums and they were at 0.060 and have been using them for a couple of years now, no problems.

They used different gaps on some years,,2000 is .040 in Delco Iridiums,This came up when I had a thread about the 100,000 mile myth. someone posted the same thing with a link to NGKs (I think it was NGK) list some had .060 but 2000 and most others were .040 .I guess the general experimented a couple of years.

The manufacturer of the plugs determines what the gap should be. Not GM, Ford, or whoever. The .060 gap was for the AC platinum plugs. The AC iridiums are .040. NGK, Autolite, etc, set the gap on their plug design.

I think.

This seems to make the most sense. Can anyone confirm this for stock applications?

Thanks!

A new spark plug has been released for use in the above vehicles. The new spark plug has an Iridium tip instead of the current Platinum tip. Due to the different tip design, the gap of the spark plug has also changed. The new spark plug, P/N 12571164 with AC Delco P/N 41-985, is gapped to 1.01mm (0.040 inches) when the spark plug is made. The spark plug gap is set during manufacturing and should not be changed or damage to the spark plug may result. Any new spark plug found to not be properly gapped should not be used.

The Delco gap is well documented. Its interesting how many engines this this covers.
