Default Z06 Windshield?

I just had my windshield replaced. Although I tried to tell them what the windshield said on the etched tag, they only wanted my VIN. they replaced my windshield with "an original windshield from GM for my specific VIN" according to the local Chevy dealer. The local Chevy dealer said that the original windshield, which has the part number "08008" , and contains the second line which reads "Sunshade HUD 4.8mm", has been superceded twice, and that the current replacement windshield...which is the ONLY replacement windshield authorized by GM for the Z06 Corvette, does NOT contain the 4.8mm in the windshield code, and the correct part number is currently "09046".
My questions are:
1) Is this "09046" windshield the thin 4.8mm thickness?
2) Is there a correct (thin) 4.8mm windshield availabel?
3) Is the original 08008, 4.8mm windshield still available?
Thank god all of you knowledgable forum members are still available

Do a search ... there's been a dozen threads about this in the last 4 moths.

Key Word(s): z06, windshield, OEM ; Forum: C5 Z06 Discussion and child forums.

Here are the numbers that I have for the Z06 windshield (with HUD) ...

If you are ordering it through an autoglass shop it is part DW 1514

If you are ordering from a dealer the GM part is 10315114 and GM list price is $879.90

See below for a picture of what the lower right corner markings are .... The 43R-008008 (or any other 43R numbers) are not a part number .... it is the number of a "safety certificate" issued to show compliance with European standards. The DOT-376 shows the windshield meets US standards.

The correct Z06 windshield will show the line "SHADED HUD 4.8MM"

Interestingly, these photos are exactly what both my '02 Z06 & '04 convertible say. I guess because HUD came in both vehicles.

Before this thread caused me to look at my vettes I always thought the 4.8mm windshield was reserved for the Z06 only.

HUD 'verts got the Z06 windshield soon after it was invented. Cheaper to warehouse only one.

It's listed as available at both of these sites .....

http://www.gmpartshouse.com

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com

Though the gmpartsdirect site has the part "flagged" because they don't ship glass components. Call any autoglass shop in your area and give them the number I gave you in post #5 above ( DW 1514 ) and they can order it under that number if your dealer is claiming the GM number is incorrect.
