Default Seat problem

Under hard acceleration the back of the seat seems to snap out of position and move back a few clicks. Other than replacing the seat (can't seem to do that AND stay in SCCA's SS class), are there other alternatives? Is this a known issue for which there is a generally acceptable "bubba fix" that someone can point me toward?

This happened to me yesterday on all 3 of my Autocross runs (pretty distracting, by the way), but only happened a couple times on Saturday, mostly toward the end of the day (13 runs total).

FWIW, I have the seat back nearly vertical for competition, but laid back a little for street driving.

Thanks,

Eric

Not for nothin', but I'd have that seat back adjuster checked out ASAP. In the event of an accident, you don't want the seat back collapsing on you. If you're mechanical, remove the seat and check the mechanism yourself. Otherwise, take it to a dealer and complain about it. IMHO, that's a safety item and if it's broken, GM should make good on it. Whether they do or not, you need to have it repaired/replaced, the sooner the better.

Alternative -- there are plenty of folks who have replaced their seats with aftermarkets and have the originals floating around. See if someone is interested in swapping seats with you or selling you the driver's seat without the mounting rails. Removing the seat from the rails is not a big deal and you can install a new seat in less than an hour.

Common problem. Both of my '03s do it. I had the AE seat adjuster replaced twice under warranty. When on the track with my Z it is a bitch when it happens. Buddy went off at Spring Mountain when his let go. Another buddy used a foam block behind his seat before he changed them out. I think it was in '01 when GM went to a different supplier for the adjuster mechanism (cheaper). And the problems just got worse.

I always flip the recline lever before each track session to help.

I'd like to hear if anyone has a "fix" for this, other than changing the seats.

My seat was listing to one side, if this is the same problem you are having, here is the solution. In the seat section on the side there is a long cable like a throttle cable for a lawn mower that attaches to the frame with a little white clip. Sometimes the clip pops out of its hole in the frame. I did a diy'er write up with a couple of pictures to show where it was located. i'll see if i can repost it.
