Hi, I am new to Corvettes. I recently obtained a 2000 and have had the ABS and stability control warning lights come on. I took the car to the local Chevy dealer and they said i needed a new computer module. I had them put that in. Now the lights are coming on again. is there a known problem with this unit? What should i be asking the mechanic?
C5s are meant to have the rear tires be equal to or taller than the front tires. If your front tires are close in size or taller than the rears this could be a cause for your problem.
You could also have bad sensors.
Hope this gets you started in the right direction.
It seems the dealers go the computer as the fault of this problem more than not and it is rarely the source of the problem. I had the same problem for several months. Every time I hit a bump the warning lights came on till I restarted. Cleaned the chassis grounds and that slowed it down, but it didn't stop. The final solution was cleaning the gray connector plug on the drivers side with electrical contact spray ( radio Shack $9).
That was the last ABS warning light I've seen in 3 mos. Hope that helps
Code C1214 is commonly associated with a failed EBCM that can be repaired by ABSfixer for $150, or replaced by the dealer for $1,000 or more; likely the dealer replacement will also eventually fail as well, whereas the ABSfixed module has improved parts installed on the circuit board that are not prone to failure.
