Default My first Corvette

This is a great forum. As of May 22 I became a first time Corvette owner – the third owner of my 2001 Torch Red coupe, 6 speed with 34000 miles. First mod will be a MCM hood – read on. I bought it near Manchester, NH and drove it 1943 miles to its new home. A CF member near the dealer was kind enough to check it out for me before I booked a flight down. A good friend of mine came along for the ride.

After stopping for some dinner and owning the car for about two hours, 88 miles into the trip home, a deer so fascinated with my new car took out the left side headlight. We were in the middle lane on 495 heading west not far from Boston and it was getting dark so the headlights were up, with no warning, this deer got half way across the middle lane and crunch – all I saw was the deer’s azz fly over the right fender. That took the wind our of our sails and I can’t describe the feeling so we found a couple of rooms and called it a night. The next day we got up and I told my friend this was not going to spoil the rest of the trip in such an amazing car.

The balance of the trip was fun with out any issues, the car averaged 28.3 mpg US gallon or 34 mpg Imperial gallon. I took the car in for the insurance claim and the damage came to just under $6000 including taxes – new headlight, fender and hood and removal / repaint of the nose. I am going to pay the body shop the difference on substituting a MCM hood for the stock hood.

Here are some pictures for now, I will post more when the work is completed.

Nice Vette

But why does everyone feel the need to block out their license plate like someone is going to come after you and take your Vette and family

What are you going to do when you get a custom plate and you enter it on the forum - like in the custom plate list - but black it out

My plate is "BLHKPRL" I live in California and my Vette is Black and I am located in Palmdale 93552

I do like your Vette by the way and am glad you'll be getting it fixed and done quickly

Thanks,Matt

The plate is the dealers name and I wasnt sure if it was right to advertise for him - I dont think he is a supporting vender. I have no issues showing my plate, its out there for everyone to see.

Hey, It could have been alot worse hitting a deer.It looks like a real nice car, so it is just a bit of a bend in the road toward alot of great adventures for you. Welcome to the forum, remember to wave, and beware of the Mod Fever. It stikes without warning, and it can be devastating to your wallet.

Nice car, good luck with it. Sorry to hear about the deer. I just bought the Ecklers MCM knock off hood and my bady shop really likes the finish and the crown and edges of the hood. and it was only 1200 delivered
