I currently have the vortex ram air, and am looking at getting the vararam within the week. The only question is when I installed the vortex i had to drill a hole next to the radiator. When i install the vararam what should i do with the hole? Cover it up with fiberglass or just let it be?
I have a couple vendors i have looked at:
East Coast Corvettes http://storesense.megawebservers.com...ail.bok?no=166
Vararam Industries http://www.vararam.com/b2.html
Or if there is a forum vendor here with a price lower than $369 + $15 shipping.
I was also hoping there was a way around, i.e. to drill rather than get the pre-cut radiator shroud, and if there is could someone let me know how to do it!
By not closing or eliminating the opening you will lose some air flow through the radiator and will more than likely pick up a lot of debris in the engine compartment. Thus destroying all those extra horses you get from the High-Performance hood seal.
Close the opening, any way you chose.
Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a sheet of Aluminum or Plexiglas cut it to size and rivet it into place. I you use Plexi, be sure to use rivet washers to keep it from breaking. David
Callaway Honker's are $$$.$$ Im wondering which product is better, the vortex or vararam and why?
Let me know how it goes I have the Vortex but bot sure if it's worth switching since they are both ram-air. How much HP can one pick over from the other. Then come the dollar per HP ratio.

I've seen the Vortex--it looks like cheap thin plastic. IMO...not the product for such a high performance car. Can't speak to the vararam. When you see a Honker, you know that you're looking at a well engineered product and can see why it cost $$$.$$. It look like it belongs in a vette.
With a Honker, Melrose headers, Corsa Pace and tune, I picked up 49 rwhp on a conservative dyno. Don't know how much is due to the Honker...but I am sure glad I went with it.

What's a conservative dyno? Is it different the a Liberal Dyno?

This is what I did after taking out a system that left a big hole in the shroud to install my vararam. Over 10,000 miles later, no problem with the plexiglass. I may one day put in a new shroud, just haven't felt the need to spend the money. Now if I planned to show my FRC, I would replace the shroud.
