Will paint stripper ruin plastic?
Thinking about painting some plastic pieces to match the car, but if I want to remove the paint will it damage the plastic (black) finish underneath?

I think in most cases it will damage the plastic. It can make the plastic soft and lose shape. I wouldn't do it.

Cut some vinyl contact shelving paper to fit and spray the color on it. Then place on the wheel inserts and if you dont like it peel off and throw away. Cheap and easy to remove. This is a little more work but at least you won't have to strip the paint. If the result is good mask and spray.Good luck.

So I will suggest you use paint thinner and just use it to wipe the paint off before it dries. If this is not acceptable then see if you can get a paint stripper that is plastic safe.
I did a quick search and found this:

A couple of other sites used the same Chameleon stripper too! Hope this helps

I just used a professional paint stripper on my fuel rail covers. NO PROBLEM AT ALL. Body shops use these products to remove paint from plastic car panels that need to be refinished.
If you wish to do this, go to an auto body shop supplier. Be prepared to pay some serious money for these chemicals. Explain what you are trying to do and listen to the experts advice.
I'm sure you can take it from there.

P.S. My freshly painted fuel rail covers turned out pretty good considering I'm an amateur.
