Advice needed: Thoughts on this C5?
I just wanted to get opinions on this C5 that I'm about to purchase. Boy, have I posted alot on teh forum today I'm headed to Jacksonville, FL later tonight for a 6 hour drive to pick it up I'm getting it for $16,500 total (out the door, everything)
The known issues are the HUD doesn't work for some reason (I have no idea) the a/c doesn't display but works and blows cold (can get the display fixed for $60) will need new tires soon, and I also noticed the oil pressure gauge is pegged out (delt with that before on my '00, no biggie to me) Other than that, the interior/exterior is VERY clean and seller claims is runs/shifts fine with no leaks. It has 105k miles. So, does this sound like a good deal or should I hold out for somethin else? 18k was my range btw
I didn't think the 01 s were hatchback.
Other than that I would say test drive first and see if she leaks. After the results negotiate price from there. but from the looks of it not a bad deal.
good luck
....Here's my 2 cents......back off this car....the overall condition/mileage...cond....and the "well worded" description..lead me to believe you will regret this car.....if you can inspect/drive and evaluate the car before buying....ok...if not......the motto....'THERE'S ALWAYS A BETTER DEAL" will again hold true...good luck..Mike
For 16k even with the high miles is a good deal. Just depends how it was driven IMHO. If it was some older dude who pampered it then its probably still in good shape. However if its in the hands of a younger guy or ANYONE with a mullet then stay far far away!
As you already know.... (previous ownership) you know what to look and listen for. The only unknown could be this is one of the bad Oil-Burners.....
Beyond that, all is fixable if you are a DIY sort of person that loves this sort of thing.
Bringing it up to standard is cost factor you have to figure into the deal as well. And, if you were to sell it within a year or two, getting back what you put in may be problematic.

I thought only the '01 Z06's had the ring issue on the new LS6 engine? Aren't the LS1's in '01 ok?

Yea, I enjoyed workin on my '00 FRC. I did A LOT of work to it One of which was a slave cylinder install I had a '99 FRC that was COMPLETEY problem free. I can work on it, but I really don't wana do anything major
104,000 miles? RUN RUN RUN. Why doesnt the HUD work? Seriously. I only have 11,000 miles on my 2001. Say what you want but 104,000 miles does not scream "babied".

IMO, that's too much for that car with those miles and with the items that need repair. I'd say keep looking for a lower mileage car that doesn't require you to fix a bunch of stuff.
No one ever likes the higher mileage cars on here. But if you want a c5 bad enough in that price range if the car is clean and has no major problems you should buy it. for 16,500 dollars your not going to get a low mileage c5. I just bought my 00 frc with 90,000 miles on it for $14000. No problems at all and in the 2000 miles I put on it. There is a post on here of a guy putting 300000 miles on his vette so they last for alot of miles.
It's definitely a buyers market right now. If you look around, you'll probably find a car with half the miles going for $16.5k. Or at least a car which is around a thousand more but equipped with working HUD and good tires.
I would walk away, too many problems and not worth the asking price. It looks to me that they have overspray on the brake caliper in the wheel pic. Looks like a patch up job, you can paint a wheel, but at least take it off the car first. IMHO the car does not seem to be well maintained.
Personally I would go a couple years older and less mileage / better condition for your price target. You could probably find a nice 99 with 50-60K miles for close to that.
To me too many little problems that could add up to one big headace. The prices as we all know have really dropped on the C5's (and most other performance cars) I'd skip this one if it was me.
Tell him he needs to knock off 2k for the missing R on the rear lettering.
It does seem high for the mileage/issues to me.
There are a lot of vettes out there.
Good luck.
Prices are dropping. Saw in a mag at anewsstand yesterday that some cars (i.e.50th Anniv addition) had dropped 20% over the last year. Hold out for better deal or offer something lower than the $16.5k.
