Got a question...Just got my car back today from body shop. Had to have some touch up work done on front bumper. When I got in the car I noticed the outside temp read -17. (Impossible since I'm in Alabama in the middle of June). Any ideas on how to fix this problem since the air will not work until the correct outside temperature is established?
Sensor is part # 10248414, about $10 at the dealer. If you unplug the sensor the A/C should default to 69 deg, and allow your compressor to come on. The sensor is under the front air dam on the pass side, right below the end of the radiator. It's held in by a plastic push pin, asbout a 2 min job. After changing the sensor, you will need to drive the car a mile or so before the new sensor will "read" and start working. Manual states XXXmph for XXX minutes, I don't recall the specifics, but a mile or so will do it.
I procrastinated and once I did buy the part (no Corvette tax!!! about 10 bucks!!) and put it on (a few minutes, no more!!) My A/C was back working. I had a bad sensor that was reading -xx degrees and so my AC would not work. This was in the summer and I found threads about how cheap and how easy it was to fix and thought 'no way, can't be that simple'. It is, and I feel really dumb for waiting and going without my AC for that long.......
Keep in mind that the sensor is a thermoresistor and as the temperature decreases the impedance increases. In other words, to report a temperature that low the sensor circuit impedance would be going way up although not an open circuit. Check the connector for corrosion as it could be affecting the contacts and giving you this problem.
