Sears screwed up my Mag wheels
I am pissed!
Took my rear wheels to Sears to have a set of Nitto drag radials put on. I didn't pay any attention to them until I got home. One of the wheels is fine but the other has atleast 8 chips out of the paint. To top that off they placed the weights on the outside and they are crooked and hanging over the edge of the lip! Two actually fell off while I was washing them.
I called them after I found this out but the manager won't be in until Monday. I want a new wheel. What do you think they will do for me?

I think you should not have taken it to Sears.
Plus always go over the wheels with the manager or salesperson before they do the work. Note on the work order that the wheels are not damaged.
When you pick it up inspect them again BEFORE you leave.
btw. They should either have it fixed or replace it.

Sorry about your mis-hap, I would of never taken it to sears (Owned by K-Mart) to do wheels, I stick with the tire pros. You might get lucky and they will replace it, Be firm when you talk to the manager, But don't be an @ss.

I took them to Sears because that is where a few of my friends with Vettes have taken their wheels and they recommended them. We live in a fairly small town and don't have many choices. One of the wheels is OK but they must have had a rookie do the other because it is nasty.

Mag wheels are pretty delicate, most the regular "tire shops" around here won't even touch them. Next time I'd call ahead, make sure they are comfortable with working on mags. Make sure they know you mean "magnesium" too. Many old timers called all wheels "mags".

i WORK for Sears "Loss Prevention"... and thanks for all the comments guys!
besides everybody els thinking a Vette is to good of a car to take to sears, accidents do happen but stick to your guns and you will get a new wheel out of it...
ask for the store manger tell him/her exactly what you want and if they start giving you flac ask for their Regional Manager.
Let me know how it goes.... i will look into this on monday and ask my boss what your best plan of attack is if they say no.

My local Stealership took a chunk right out of one of my mag wheels when they replaced a TPS. Luckily I'd taken digi-pics of all four wheels just before I got to the stealership. The installer who did the tire work didn't even have the decency to tell the service manager what he'd done and left it for me to find.
To his credit the service manager asked me what it would take to make me happy. My answer, of course, was a new wheel and it was to be installed NOT at their shop. I got what I wanted but the installer wouldn't admit to what he did.
By the way - tire weights do NOT clip onto mag rims - they stick on the inside. No exceptions! The people who did your work didn't have a clue.
Look for a tire shop with the type of tire machine where nothing touches the rim. If you can't find one, ask the nearest Benz dealer where they get their tire work done. Accept nothing less.

I found mine (I did the legwork for the stealership) at a place in mid Michigan. I lost the contact info. He only had rears - new in box, for about $350.

If it is under $250 the Store Manager (actually the Ops Mgr) will authorize a payment that comes with a release form.
If it is over $250 they will make you go through their insurance company...and you will have to wait and wait and wait.
BTW, it will do you absolutely no good to call the store and complain. Once it goes to the ins company, it is one hundred percent out of their hands...
Peace

First, I'm sorry for your horrible day. I know how frustrating it is to have something damaged on a nice car, been done to mine..........
I don't trust anyone to work on my wheels, first before removing them, I talk to the shop and explain my concerns and expectations. Then I take them off tote them to the shop, then explain what I expect again. If they're not agreeable, I try another shop.
I hope it turns out well for you. Please keep us posted. David
