Default Correct numbers for '98 mufflers?

My ’98 has an aftermarket exhaust on it (there when I bought it), and I wanted to pick up a correct factory exhaust in case I ever wanted to put it back stock or get it judged in 10 years or something, so I grabbed one off the junk pile at Bloomington this weekend. My understanding was that the 97-99 were all the same, with the black tips. After I got home, I noticed some numbers on the mufflers:

Right hand:
10408019 YLF
CAN-TN H15
31?97 96C320

Left hand:
10408019 YLF
CAN-TN H15
31697 96C320

The 96 and 97 in the numbers have me wondering if these things are date coded and I got parts that are too early. Can anyone with a stock ’98 tell me what their numbers are (they’re on the side facing the ground so you’d just have to stick your head underneath), or can anyone else shed any light on this?

could very well be the 10408019 is the GM vendor part number. might be the actual muffler part of the system is the same left and right, only when the pipes are installed do they become left and right specific. I couldn't find 10408019 listed in the exhaust section of my parts cd.

Mine are off a 98 (black tips)

Right side(looking at it from the back:

10408019 YLF
CNA-TN H15
07798 96C320

Left side:

Same as right but this number highlighted above is now:
07698.

I've got a feeling where we differ is a date code, with the last 2 digits being the year. Anyone else have numbers off a '98?

Keep in mind that the '98s started production in 1997.

Yeah, and mine's actually an early '98 (delivered 11/97) so maybe I'm close. I just wonder what the numbers correspond to....if the last 2 are the year, how can three digits tell you the month and day, unless they used a letter for October-December?

Some manufacturers use the day of the year, i.e. a "30" would represent Jan 30th and a "90" would represent a day in March. If that were true here, the "316" would represent the 316th day of '97 which would place it sometime in the Oct/Nov time-frame. I'm not sure exactly who the vendor for GM was but it seems like I remember Maremont (ArvinMeritor) being the exhaust supplier. Not absolutely positive but I think they were.
