Exactly.
The vararam is sucking in only cooler air from the outside of the car, and does not suck any of the hot air from inside the engine compartment..especially if you have been running the car hard, or its very hot out, you've got all that heat soak under the hood which that filter is also exposed to. The vararam is sealed off and not exposed to all that hot air.
I'm not saying the K&N unit is bad, anything is better than stock, and I sure that filter flows very nice too.
Go with the vararam, it cost more, but you get what you pay for. It's results have been proven time and time again. It is a true CAI/ram air .

I run the set up in your pics (FIPK). You'll notice (in the pics) the owner didn't perform the shroud cut out (which is per install instructions) defeating the purpose in the process. I did make the cut (essentially the zip tie mod) and have outside air being directed to the filter, the whole idea of the product to begin with.
As always (this topic appears like clock work) there will be a TON of opinions.

I'd go for the VR, but from the pics i've seen of it, the install around the foglight section is VERY choppy. But from the advertisement pics, looks like they incorporated the stock foglight housings, so I am not sure what the difference is between the actual installed product or the picture that VR has out.

My personal preference was not to have to start cutting up pieces on my car also.

VaraRam has been proven a number of times, I'm sure the other setup is alright too.

That looks a lot like a Blackwing.

I've got a thread on here about my Vararam install, with some close up pics of it installed. Truth be told, it looks very unfinished. It was recommended to me, in that thread, to put on some screens. Very very glad I did.
I'll look for the thread.
