I just aquired my first C5. Paint & interior flawless. Trans. tires, waterpump & belt replaced. Looks to be well maintained. I picked it up at a great deal. Only down side is the 112k miles. My question to you all is, should I be concerned? How many miles can these reach? Any high mile C5's out there driven daily, if so, how many miles on your C5?
136K here on a '98. Driven almost every day... even in the snow. Towed trailers.
I had to rebuild 3rd gear synchro a while ago cause it started grinding. I did that when I had my trans out cause the slave cylinder died. That was the most debilitating failure.
The C-5 Corvette is a strong platform. Created to run along at speeds in the 170's to 180's and in some cases, above that. A lot of engineering went into its design. Will they last??? Of course they do as long as they aren't abused and they are taken care of. Nothing lasts forever therefore there will be issues but if you fix them as they appear, it will keep right on going. I gave away my high mileage '99 to my son who picked it up here in May (S. Calif.) and drove it back to Virginia where it is now. When I gave it away, it was at 310,000 and I hear its almost 316,000 now, still running strong.
My 98 isn't as high in mileage as some on here, with 95k on it, but I am confident that it'll still be running perfectly even when I add another 95k on it. This car still feels and runs like a brand new car! It's easily been the most reliable daily driver I've ever had! It has only had two repairs in the 4 years I've owned it, the first was the digital display for the climate control going dim (a common C5 issue which is easily fixed) and the ECM died on me (due to corrosion) back in early 2006. Since that time, it hasn't needed any repairs! I drive this car 50 miles a day to work and back, even in the winter time. I couldn't possibly imagine driving some slow and boring 4 cylinder car to work everyday!
I just picked up a 110,000 mile FRC on Sunday, tranny and clutch were done in the last year by the PO, as was the paint. This is my 'new' daily driver - so fingers crossed. I'll be putting about 500 miles a month on it, and gas just hit over 1.50 per litre (about $5.70 per gallon). Go big or stay at home, I figure.
a friend of mine has a 01 ZO6 with 185,000 miles, running strong, original clutch, one water pump and several sets of brake pads and tires, otherwise thats it
98 daily driver Coupe with 113,600 miles. Only 2 problems, one headlight gear and one oil pressure sensor. Great Car. I heard engine is good for 200,000 miles.
Just turned 120k on my DD. Had it since new and I'm still in love with the C5.
4 sets of tires, shocks, brakes, 4 batteries, clutch system, belts, interior foam, seat covers, rear carpet (coupe), gas, oil. Much of what I changed was by choice not need.
I have a club buddy that has a 110k coupe that is a regular at the strip,,runs great!! Called an add when I was looking,It had 225K and was still going strong.(They were a LOT of highway miles he had restaurants in St.Louis and Kansas City)
136K on my '99 C5. I drive it about half time as a DD. (But since it gets 23MPG combined, and my SUV 15MPG, I will probably drive the C5 more often now.)
My '01 Z06 has 80,XXX on it and is more than fine, of course I've modded everything
The '98 I just picked up has 116,XXX and pulls hard, has great oil pressure, and no leaks. It's a repaired track rat so it does have a few quirks, but they're very robust cars.
Plus, like Steve said they're rather easy cars to work on and fix. You've got great resources like this forum where everything that can happen has happened and usually results in a how-to thread with pictures. You also have great sites like www.ls1howto.com that has tutorials with pics. I used that for my cam swap a few years ago.
