Is it possible to change out a battery and avoid losing the stored memory for the stereo, remotes, seat/mirror settings, etc?
I am seriously thinking of changing out my battery to a gel type and don't want to lose my stored memory. If this is not a problem, cool. If it is a problem I was thinking of installing (carefully) my battery tender to the battery cables and then R&R the battery.

I hate to lose the audio settings when disconnecting the battery (Pioneer D3) but have made a double 9volt connected to a cigarette lighter plug and just plug it into the auxiliary power source in the center console before removing the negative batt terminal. Just remember to remove the 9volt batteries before you start the Vette, or you'll charge (they get very hot!) the alkaline 9volt batts.

This works! 9 volts will retain all the stored memory functions.

Hopefully it works for you
I can't speak for the Kenwood's voltage demands, But the seat, etc memory should be retained with the 9 volt battery supply. One thing that may have happened is that the 9 volt setup wasn't making proper contact (it happened to me in the male cigarette lighter plugs fuse connection) and even though the plugs indicator light showed "on" it wasn't connected to the Vette's electrical system. I'm going to say if the 9 volt battery is correctly in the loop all memory will be retained. At least it's always worked for me.

Hi, the 9 volt memory saver can work, but you have to work fast, the vette draws a lot of current, and the 9 volt doesn't last a long time. Other than that changing the battery shouldn't lose anything except the clock setting, and as mentioned if the radio theft lock is activated on yours deactivate it before removing the battery, it is a pain to reset if you don't. Instructions are in the manual on how to deactivate it.
Good Luck, change out and don't worry about it.
I changed my battery a few months ago and didn't have to reset anything. As mentioned, though, you should unlock your radio before installing the new battery.

I had my battery out for several days a few weeks ago while I repaired all the damage from it leaking acid all over the place and I only had to reset my clock and resync my two fobs. Now that I think about it the battery was out all winter and those were the only settings I had to make when taking it out of storage.
It is possible that an after market radio may in fact loose it's settings but can't say for sure since mine is stock.

If you had a D3 you wouldn't be sayin' that. All your Nav history leaves, all the setup settings throughout audio/video, screen backrounds that you loaded, the color matched lighted command buttons, the multiple equalizers, bluetooth address book, ALL gone! It's worth the 9 volt plugin, believe me.

That is what I do. I also unplug the underhood light, so not to drain the nine volt

Very good point. I don't have my underhood compartment light ever hooked up (and don't miss it sitting there on every time a door, decklid or whatever is opened at a cruise). But I do validate the 9 volt (I use two 9 volt batteries) connection with a quick opening of the glovebox door. If the light is on I'm saved a lot of Pioneer reprogramming.
