I parked my 2003 Z06 last Saturday and hopped on my bike with my teenage daughter and rode from Houston out to the Big Bend National Park for 4 days before flying back last night. This morning I prepared to drive the Z into work and twisted the key but......the lights come on, the fuel pump activates and the gauges work.....but the engine won't turn over. There is no low power clicking, nothing. Battery appears strong (1 year old) and light head lights are bright, so what gives? I changed keys and FOBs, went in and out of security, but still no go. I change oil every 5000 miles and I rarely reactivate the reset on the oil gauge, and it was showing 0% remaining so I reset the indicator, but other than that....I have had no problems.
Well, unless the 0% oil indicator was sending a hard message to me, I have to assume I have either a Gremlin in the car or my Baby Z was jealous that I took a trip to the West Texas mountains on my Harley Road Glide and not in her so she was showing me the Love.
During the day She must of gotten over the jealousy, as I came home from work and she started right up!
And yes, all the usual suspects had been looked at (cables and the like).
If there is something I should know, please advise.
This has happened to me, Easy fix, Get under the car and hit the starter with a wrench. Give it a decent smack. Nothing full out to dent the thing but enough to give it a nice smack then get in the car and it might just fire up just fine.
Its typical and somehow it seems to be the issue when everything else looks like its working.
PM me if this solves your problem.
Oh, be very careful! My Z did the exact same thing to me about 3 months ago....no start & then several consecutive starts with no problems so I thought it was a fluke. Then, with no warning, she refused to start again. This time, there was no reprieve, and she was towed to the shop where it was determined that the starter had died. It was replaced, and there has not been a problem since.
The first thing to do is ALWAYS get the fault codes from the DIC. That will lead you in the right direction. If for example there is a code B 2723, that probably means the ignition lock cylinder has an internal short. Twisting and shaking the key will sometimes get it to start. That is just one example of what may occur when the battery is fully charged but the car does not crank. Good luck.
