I have a question about a strange engine noise and sounds like a loud click/clack. On initial startup, I hear a noise that sounds like that of a misfire but only happens ever 1/2 second or so.It sounds it only happens once per cam rotation or something. When I accelerate from a stop, I can hear the noise start to happen on a shorter interval.Anyone know what this might be? The pattern of clicks sounds like something from the cam or could it be something like predetonation?
Possible cracked valve spring? Have you done a compression test? Pullled the codes? How many miles on it and what type of driving does it see? Lifter going bad? I assume you are changing the oil regulary.
not recently but I have a magnaflow kit on my vehicle

Ok, doesn't sound like any abuse then and mileage is low, so its doubtful that the lifters wore out. See if you can provide us with some additional details of exactly when this sound happens and a better description of the sound. Car moving yet or not, first start as opposed to happening when its running....like the starter motor doing something it shouldn't. Check the serpentine belts and the tensioners lately?
