Default Carlisle Show

I am thinking of going to Corvettes at Carlisle this year. I have a few questions about parking are there are there handicapped available, Can tickets be bought there or should they be purchased on line? I have a week-end house in Bushkill, Pa and mapquest calls for a three hour drive.

Your answers and comment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bob

this is a great event and although I cannot say for sure about the hadicap parking. I can san that everything is easialy accessable. Your best bet would be to contact the event. I am sure they have something. I drive about 3 hours to the show also from VA. anyway go if you can it will be hot but it will beworth it.

Tickets can be purchased on line or at the event. You can rent a motor wheelchair like a "jazzy". They are pretty popular. I can't imagine something as big as Carlisle not having handicap parking but any question can be answered by email at www.carlisleevents.com . They are usually pretty good at getting back to you. Lance and the gang up there are great people.

Don't know what your handicap is, but it is plenty hilly and hot. It is a tough walk!

I'd also say that if you register for the fun field display, you can park on the lower level which is flat. You park in the grass, but the cars all park backed in from a paved road. (see pic) So the only problem with a wheelchair (if that's the problem) would be about four feet of grass. All of Carlisle is either paved or concrete. If you're looking for a cheap hotel in case you don't want to drive back three hours a day, try the Super 8 in Chambersburg/Scotland. It's about a half hour drive, but new and clean and very nice. Stayed there last year and was happy with it.

Hi There,
Contact Jenn at Carlisle Events.com or 717-2437855. She is in charge of the event.I don't recall seeing a handicap parking area, but recall people in wheel chairs being there last year. Jenn will know.

They have a place for handicap parking next to Gate 1 I believe.
Its nothing special insofar as its just on the lawn like all the fun field stuff. It just has the advantage that its right next to the gate.
You can buy online or at site (at site just requires you get in line).

If you are driving a vette youshould probably just do fun field.
And I'm with Keyo - it was like a furnace so bring an umbrella and a cooler - maybe a hat fan - wet towel for neck ... we tried them all on my wife and we still had a blast

I am handicapped and can tell you for a fact that they have handicap parking. There is an area up by gate 3 near the restrooms and a section marked off by the grandstand near where Kerbeck has their display. I suggest that you register online as it gets very crowded the day of the event and arrange for a handicap scooter which can be obtained at Gate 3. Preregister for the fun display which will get you into the area with the handicap parking. Remember it's very large and would mean a lot of walking, therefore, I recommend the scooter. The rental fees are somewhat reasonable. By all means you should go. It is an event of a lifetime for corvette lovers. My wife, on the other hand, calls it a weekend from hell. PM me if you have any questions. This year will be my 18th year in a row.

It is one tough place, that is for sure. I love going as much as leaving.
We live about 1.5 hours away, and it is a long day for us with the August heat and the hills. Don't over do it.

The show is worth the effort. The weather can be Very Hot in late August and the fairgrounds require a two day effort if you intend a full show. You can cut down on the day's exhaustion by renting a electric power chart to cruise the area. All events with the show are Corvette related and it is fun. Prepurchased tickets can also buy parking space on the grounds. Handicap parking is available but I do not believe it is any different access that a regular space. The Cart rentals were just inside the main gate.

It is the best Vette Show on the east coast, 82+ acres of Corvettes and parts to see. The heat is extremely wicked plus magnified by the blacktop. It is jam packed but worth the trip.

I know you said you don't need a wheelchair, so may I make a suggestion? Rather than parking in the handicap parking area (which is at the far end of the fairgrounds) I would suggest you park on the main fun field close to the grand stand. (see pic). It's level, and you won't have to walk the length of the fun field to get to the vendors and displays. Much closer to everything. The food vendors are under the grandstand, and there are restrooms there too.
And if you can, bring a pop up canopy or a big umbrella and a couple folding chairs because there is VERY little shade, and VERY few places to sit aside from the bleachers and the dining area. It would give you a resting place to go to during the day, and again, once you've walked around the vendors, cars, and displays, not having to walk so far all the way back to the handicap spot would be helpful. If you have a friend with you, perhaps he or she can go to the office and rent you a scooter.
Like everyone says, it can be hot..........all the concrete and asphalt doesn't help. We always bring along a soft collapsible cooler and fill it up at the hotel in the morning with ice, pop, and water. That helps too.
You'll have a great time for sure. There's absolutely NOTHING like Carlisle.

You should definately register online and check out their website for information on accessability for the handicap. They have scooters for rent if you need one and as much walking as there is involved you may want to look into it. The heat is BRUTAL and there is very little if any shade so be prepared for that. It is a great experience and if you go prepared you'll love it
