Hi all, my Dad goes on alot of long tours with his Vette. I'm a fabricator by trade and I'm considering building my father a trailer that is an exact replica from the quarters back of a C5 so that he has something to attach to his car for luggage.
I know...I know...don't bust my jewels. it's not for everyone but he'll love it. Can anyone tell me if there is a receiver hitch made for a C5?
Also, he lives to far from me to take some measurements from his car so can someone please tell me what the distance from the ground to the top of the rear bumper is(in inches)? Please and thanks
Well, I had my mind set on building the thing. But I just ran across that post about the Miata...there are alot of people on that thread talking about the C5 having alot of cargo area.
Hell, maybe I should ask him before I spend all that time and energy building the thing. ...not to mention the cost.
My trailer doesn't look like what you're gonna build but I use the drawtite hitch. Works well! (ignore the haters... everytime a hitch or snow tires thread comes out... there's alot of pollution in the thread)

I think this is a great idea one my wife and I talked about last year but I have not seen a trailer yet but I also haven't done a lot searching that I could tow with my Coupe.
We always use my Explorer when we go on vacation largely because it has all the room we need for our luggage, beach chairs, cooler etc.. plus all the stuff we buy along the way. I would much prefer taking the Corvette, much more fun to drive around the New England coast and Maine then my boring Explorer, plus it gets double the mileage of my big V8 all wheel drive monster. The trailer would be used mainly on the open road to get from point a to b and back.
If anyone has any pointers on custom style trailers please post.
I've towed my teardrop for several years. Bought my hitch from www.etrailers.com and except for the actual receiver, all the rest of the hitch is tucked up behind the rear facia. If you buy a hitch that tells you to cut off any of the rear facia tabs, don't do it. Send me a Private message and I'll let you know how to install it without cutting the tabs.

Ok, I talked to the old man. He's in love with the idea. I'm going to purchase the rear of a smashed up C5 and cut it up behind the doors. I'll post pics of it. It'll probably take me about a month to turn it into a trailer. Thanks for all the info!!!
