Default Bose CD Changer issues HELP !

My 99 C5 Bose changer stopped functioning correctly half way through my road trip. I searched CF and tried all the tricks I found (posted below). None worked. Also found a rescessed reset switch on the face of the change (upper left as you look at the door.
The changer still makes noise and changes disks on the display but will not select a track or play a track.

So any new ideas to try? Yes I know I can go iPod.......but looking to problem solve this issue at present

Thanks for your time,

Jim

Tried all these many times:

First one is inserting the disk cartridge and "WAIT", while it loads and verifies each and every disk in it. Starting the car while that process is running will result in an error condition everytime. Just wait for a couple of minutes till its done.
2. usual problem is the disks are inserted backwards. If you didn't move their positions from working to non-working, then you probably don't have this problem.
3. find the cable that runs to the 12 CD changer. Try disconnecting the plug, turn the radio on, select aux (or whatever you did to get the changer before), and plug the plug back in while its searching for it.
4. took 12 disk cassette out and reinstalled it. Radio recognized it then.
5. make sure your ignition is in the RUN position when you put the CD case inside the changer. Whenever I do it when the car is off, it will never read my CD's
5. the fix for me is to just turn car on (can be running or ac), turn radio on, switch to aux, unplug the adapter from the harness and plug it back in. Display flips to cd 1 trk 1, sound starts.

sure does look like you have done all you can do. If the reset switch didn't work it may be time to let her go. :-)

You might have a CD stuck in the player. Mine started eating the CD's so I had to go with the ipod. See if you have one that is stuck in there. Hope you find out the problem

Been there, done all of that! My main problem was every so often a cd or TWO got jammed. I finally gave up fighting the damn thing and bought an I-Simple and plugged the interface in to the cd changer. What a "simple" (pun intended) solution (and cheap too). Time to move up to newer and better technology. (Do you remember the 8 track player.....?)

We can all fight the good fight, but sometimes we need to realize that in the end we will lose.

Here's my take on fixing the Bose's cd changer...

yeah, when it's already there and working... it's "adequate" enough to use. But when it fails...

Did you eject the entire cartridge?? One bad CD or some burned discs will not play in the system and can cause the system to cycle through yet not display the info on headset. Happened to me bum cd out different cd in no problems since. Good luck

Do a online search for "ISimple". The one I got was model no. GM - ISGM73. It is made by Peripheral Electronics. It came with three adapters. One was an adapter to hook up to the cd changer in the trunk. It really is a very "simple" (there I go again...) plug an play. The stock Bose cable to the cd changer plugs into the supplied adapter cable and that plugs into the interface box (about the size of a cigerette box). A single cable plugs in to the interface box and runs into the cab and into the IPOD. The IPOD is controlled thru the Bose cd controlls. SWEET!

There are several vendors that sell the unit. Crutchfield for one.. ($130 at the time.) I got my from OE Intergation (Garden Grove, CA) $99. Prices run from $150 to $100. Like I said do an online search.

I suggest taking it apart and cleaning the laser lens, very softly and carefully. While in there, look for anything abnormal. Just a wild guess from me is that if the laser lens is dusty, it may not be able to read the first track or timing marks.

Greetings,
yep, it sounds like the same old song , dance, hop and skip with those CD changers.
I wanted so much to keep the original Cd changer in my Vette so I bought another one that was in great shape... at the time. In what seemed like a blink of an eye I had the same old problem.

So I said the heck with it , went IPOD and I have been bubbling with joy every since.

Go to icarkit.com get the connector cable that hooks right into the plug that connects to your CD changer and enjoy stress free Cd quality sound.

Then when you park, drop the IPOD in your pocket and your good to go.
