I've replaced mine on my 98 a couple of times. They break pretty easy!
I removed the seat back adjustment handle first. It's held on with a spring clip. I just reached between the seat and handle with a little hook type of tool and hooked the spring clip and pulled up. Piece of cake, not much to it. Put the clip on the handle before you put it back, that way it just snaps back in place when you push the handle on the shaft. There is a screw in front and one to the right of the handle. (Phillips head) It would be easier if you removed the seat, but I just worked in the tight space. Both times I had a replacement part that had an extra post. Guess that is how the newer vettes are attached. I had to grind that post off. Not a big deal with a dremel tool.

Hope this helps!
Just had mine off as well. But there is a small slit on the bottom of the recline handle that you can get thin tooling into. Get one in front and back in the slit and push up at the same time. The spring clip should release and the handle should come off.
how about replacing the plastic around the bottom of the seat? anybody have a clue where to get that part? is it easy to replace? any help appreciated. the piece broke near the electric control for the seat to move forward and back. i haven't seen the part in any catalog in my pile.

Good writeup. The front screw is best removed with the seat forward and a stubby phillips, if I remember correctly. Did mine about a year ago. Got the bezel and a new seat back lever (was broken also) at the dealer for about $15 total.
You can utilize the upper post which will provide a better fit of the bezel if you rivet a large washer with a hole drilled to accept the post to the frame of the seat.

thanks in advance
That's the piece this thread is referring to. Call the dealership and get one, they're $13.00.
I finaly pulled the seat four nuts and it is looking at you and you can find the where screws came out of. Plus I found $.40 and a button. Almost paid for the labor I say pull the seat it will make a hard job easy.

If you have an early car like mine, there is going to be a post on the plastic piece you need to cut off and grind flush. They made a change later in the year to make that a mount point (and therefore it sticks into the seat) and discontinued the old part w/o that post.
