Default Weird Flutter Chripping Noise?

So I noticed this morning that my car is making this weird sound upon startup and it remains for a good portion of driving. It gets louder with more throttle input. Only thing I have done to the car recently was check the alter the tire pressure and get my oil change. Any thoughts off hand?

I had a chirpping noise under the hood on mine also. Lasted about 2mo. Once the car got warm, it was almost gone but always there. Well once I changed the alternator witha bad bearing, that noise went away......take a look.....good luck.

Yeah that sounds like my case. Performance is not affected but I wouldn't expect an alternator to go. Only 60k on my clock. Oh well, not too expensive a part.

When mine started chirping, I changed the A/C and serp belts to Gatorbacks. Been quiet ever since. Check your belts, 60k is about time to change them.

I thought about the belts also. How much are these gator backs and where can I get them?

just changed mine because of this same problem. it was the tensioner on top (the one for the big belt) and took 2 minutes to replace.

The hardest part of changing the belt is to figure the route of the belt & to get it in all the right grooves. 2-10 min. about right.....I would try that b-4 changing the alt........good luck.

BTW, 60K on the belt with downtime sitting in the garage during the winter= time ti=o change belt.

Does anyone know if these are items I can get at Pepboys or Autozone? Somewhere local I don't have to wait for shipping?

Does anyone know why the sound goes away after the car warms up and is driven for about 25 to 20 mins?

I had the same noise, changed both belts to gatorbacks. Noise seemed to go away for a day or so then it's back. I think I'll hit the pulley next.

Yeah I was told it would do that if you don't change everything.

A good way to determine which belt or pulley is causing the chirp is to have the engine and A/C running (while the car is chirping) and use a socket or box wrench to ease the tension on the tension pulleys (one at a time, of course). You just put the wrench on the big bolt at the center of the pulley and give it some force to ease the tension. It's easy to do this with the top tensioner, but be careful with the bottom A/C belt tensioner because (duh...) there are moving parts and you don't want to lose a finger. If the sound goes away on any given belt/pulley, you more than likely found the source.

I went through this same routine on mine recently. I finally determined it was the A/C tensioner. It took me 15 minutes to get the new tensioner installed and 30 minutes to get the dang belts back on right!! That A/C belt just didn't want to go on the main engine pulley and seat properly.

BTW, I got my Gatorbacks at Autozone. They also have the belt tensionsers, but I ended up getting mine at O'Reilly's because they had it in stock and I was tired of the chirping and wanted to get it fixed ASAP. Any of the big parts stores should have the parts you need.

Thanks that helps out alot! From your understanding is there any real benefit to the gatorbacks? From what I heard the noise gets more noticable when the AC is on than when it is off.
