you're a good man Charlie Brown

sounds like those people subscribe to the principle of treating the customer right by giving a little extra. these days that is becoming rare.

as far as catching the fever, you caught if when you bought the Vette........ you've just experienced a major relapse. you can treat the symptoms but there is no known cure.

427 RWHP doesn't sound like too mild of a cam. Do you not have the specs, or do you not want to share.

Congrats on getting your car back.

Sounds like the story had a happy ending. Some great numbers and a new motor-can't ask for more than that.

I'm really glad you got it all back up and running, and also really glad that the kid learned a lesson, but if you got money from the kid AND the insurance company, aren't you kinda double-dipping here? I don't mean to be a jerk or anything, but why should the insurance company pay too?

^ It was unauthorized use... hydrolocking a car goes under you comprehensive coverage. The insurance co. is liable. He charged his nephew simply to teach him a hard lesson.

Was waiting for someone to ask this. Technically, he should have reported the recovery to his ins company and basically handed it over as subrogation.

Don't be surprised if the ins co goes after the nephew for the recovery.

But shouldn't the insurance co. know that the guilty party made restitution in the case?

Thanks for the replies. Some of you are misunderstanding the numbers here.

The insurance company paid for a replacement LS1, $8200 minus my $1000 deductible for a total of $7200.

I wanted the LS6, headers cam etc.....so that total was in the neighborhood of $12,500. The extra $5000 was from my nephew.

Not that I need to explain this but I always wonder why so many threads seem to deteriorate to somebody looking to "catch" someone doing something shady.

Why would I post it then? So someone can be an *** and make a veiled accusation? Please understand that the post was about hydro locking and getting it fixed.

The part about my nephew was posted because at the time of occurrence I was a bit twisted as most anyone would be. In retrospect I would not have posted that part at all.

It makes someone think twice before sharing any information when you read some of the replies.

Glad to hear all ended OK. Good idea to hold the 5K for a more responsible time, just use it to draw interest to show how investments work.

I really dont want to start an ifight here but you're the one misunderstanding the numbers. You collected what, $12,200 and basically upgraded from a stock LS1 to a modded LS6 for $300. That can't possibly sit right with you. Weather you did it on purpose or not, you double dipped.

This is exactly why I hesitate to post.
