[Z06] battery lock-out safety?
The following procedure will give you a new code that you can use instead of your personal code. Using this new code, you can “unlock” your radio and then “re-lock” it with a new code if you wish. Prerequisites: The radio must be in LOC mode NOT in INOP mode. Let me explain. If you have activated the Theft-Deterrent feature of your radio and loose power, the radio goes into LOC (theftlock) mode. With the ignition on, you must use the MN and HR buttons to enter you personal code in order to unlock it (The instructions are on page 3-27 in your Y2K Owner’s manual). If you fail to enter the correct code eight (8) times, the radio goes into INOP mode. You have to wait an hour with the ignition on before the radio returns to LOC mode (go for a long drive somewhere). Procedure: 01. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
02. Hold down the Radio Presets 2 and 3 buttons for six seconds 03. The radio display changes from LOC to a three-digit number. Write this number down. Don’t take forever, fifteen seconds max before the next step.
04. Press the AM/FM button
05. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one.
06. You now have a six-digit number, the first three digits are from STEP 03 and the last three digits are form STEP 05
07. Call 1 800 537 5140
08. Press 1 then # (pound). You’ll hear “Invalid Code, try again” 09. Press 139010 then # (pound). You will be asked to enter your four or six digit code followed by * (start)
10. Enter the number from STEP 6 then * (star)
11. Listen to the four-digit number and write it down. It will be repeated twice
12. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
13. Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from STEP 11 14. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to SEC Your radio is now “un-locked” and usable. The Theft-Deterrent feature is STILL active! If you want to disable it, use the instruction on page 3-27 in your Y2K Owner’s manual. Use the code from STEP 11 instead of your personal code.
A brand new user with a user ID that could be construed to read "jail bird" .... and you lay out the entire procedure to unlock a stolen radio at the drop of a hat ....
Why not post how to bypass VATS at the same time ... we wouldn't want to inconvenience the guy as he's stealing our cars .......
Really smart .............
. As for other readers with ill intent, maybe the administrator should remove my querstion and the answers.

You are aware that this info is available on many sites including this one aren't you? What a tool.
took 2 seconds to find info: http://www.google.com/search?q=unloc...ient=firefox-a

Black, maybe you should go and get that bypass vats thread deleted too, you know before someone sees it and steals your car. You are such an arrogant f'n idiot, and the reason there is a stereotype about corvette drivers.

I agree that the horse might be just a little high on this one. Keep in mind that the OP said NOTHING about unlocking the radio.
Another "layer" is the VATS in your key.
Another "layer" is the physical cuts in your key .....
And there are other "layers" to the system .... to steal a C5 Corvette in a reasonable amount of time you either need a valid key (which is why dealers are supposed to have you show proof of ownership for the vehicle and photo ID that you are the owner before they make a key based on the VIN) or a tow vehicle that can "******" the car very quickly. Professional thieves, if they have to "******" the car, will have it inside a shipping container within minutes of the theft. By putting your car inside a shipping container they insure that systems such as OnStar no longer work ... the vehicle can't get the GPS satellite signals inside a steel shipping container so the OnStar Center can't track the vehicle ... even if they can pick up its cell signal from inside the container. This also applies to other non-OEM systems that supposedly allow the police to "track" a vehicle.
Let's try to not put more information out there than we have to about how the SECURITY system works.
There are thieves who are smart enough to search the net and find all kinds of information on how our cars can be stolen. There are a lot more thieves who aren't that smart ... let's try and minimize discussion of how to "defeat" VATS and the other layers of the security system ... and also understand that the info on how to unlock a stolen radio MAY apply to other radios provided in GM vehicles .... that telephone number is not limited to radios from C5 Corvettes ......
Yeah me too... I disconnect my battery in the winter months, so it won't go dead. When I reconnect after all that time, there's no problem.
PS: Be careful driving your friends car! You're gonna love it!!

... no kidding. Who would want a stock Vette radio?
