Now, give the poor car a break -- yes, the center console will get warm. In fact, on a long trip or on the track it will get downright hot.
As for the oil temp., you've had the car ONE DAY. How long did you drive it? Oil temp can take quite a while to come up in regular driving. It's high oil temp you have to worry about. Does this car have an external oil cooler? If it does, it will probably stay low in around-town driving and only come up when you are really ripping.
Again, congrats, and now go drive it like you stole it.
I took delivery of my 02 z06 last night, and just wondering.
Also, my oil temp has never gone above "Low". Should it read "Normal" or anything else during normal driving conditions?
Are you reading it from the heads up display? Use the digital gauge to see the actual oil temp. Once fully warmed up it should read around 190-215 depending how hot and hard you are running the car.
The center console will get a little warm. The exhaust pipes are tucked right under the tunnel plate below. Some install an upgraded tunnel plate that helps reflect/block the heat from the exahust. Not really worth the time/effort though.
welcome to the world of Corvette ownership! Many fun times lay ahead!
Now, about your issues... as said above, the center console does get pretty warm due to the exhaust pipes being right underneath. In my car, the heat doesn't permeate to the outside of the console lid, but INSIDE The console, the carpeted pad in there can get quite warm. Don't leave a candy bar in there like I did once! I had a still-sealed bag of chocolate soup.
And, about oil temperature, keep in mind it takes a lot longer for the oil to warm up than the coolant. So, don't make the mistake of seeing your coolant reach its peak and then assume the oil is warmed up! Use the DIC (the digital console at the base of your gauges) to see the exact oil temperature. You can access it by pressing the "Gauge" button repeatedly until it appears. Once you get to above 160° or so, you're good to smash the go-fast pedal. Normal oil temps for me, hover between 190 and 220, but can creep to 240 after a lot of spirited driving.
Thanks! That explains a lot. I didn't realize I could pull the exact oil temp up on the DIC yet. I just didn't want to run the car hard while it said low temp, and this will be especially important for me because I plan to autocross this car heavily. Now I'll know what to look for for the actual temps, and also not worry about my "heated seats".

When you say the oil temp has not gotten above LOW .... where are you reading that from ?????
There is an undocumented "feature" that if the oil temperature is lower than 15 degrees Fahrenheit on engine start the DIC says LOW when you try to display the oil temperature. Since I kinda doubt your oil was that cold (unless you have the only Corvette in the Arctic) either ....
1) Your oil temperature sensor has failed, or has a wring issue.
2) The message says LOW OIL LEVEL .... check your dipstick and add oil if needed. If the DIC is warning of a LOW LEVEL and the dipstick shows the correct amount of oil, the oil level sensor has failed.
Post back as to what is happening .... someone can then explain where the sensors are so you can replace the appropriate one.
It says "Oil temperature LOW" on the DIC. I tried this morning on the way to work (very short commute so I didn't have much time to play) to find the actual temperature somewhere, but I couldn't. It's been in the mid 80s or higher in this area, and I've driven the car quite a bit and it always says low.

Hit the GAUGE button on the right side of the steering wheel twice I think and the oil temp should come up (oil pressure should be first). In this kind of temperature it usually take about 5 minutes of driving to get mine around 150, which is where I consider it hot enough to play with.
Try driving your car for 10 minutes or so to be sure it is fully warmed up. Then shut off the ignition and restart it. This should reset the oil temp reading. If not, then the sensor has probably gone out.

Inspect the wiring to the sensor. The sensor is located directly above the oil filter, it bolts in from above into a fitting attached with two bolts to the filter mount.
If the wiring appears to be OK, the sensor should be replaced. It is GM part number 12608814 (it is often listed as a coolant temperature sensor as that's what it is used for on some other GM engines) and when installing it tighten it to 17 lb/ft. The sensor is $29.45 at GM list price, you can find it cheaper at supporting vendors such as ....
Hey Guys
I picked up a 2008 Z06 in the summer time. Only put 575 miles. The other day I went for a ride and decided to try the heated seats and the passenger side does not stay on. Any reset switch or trick that I need to know.
