Default Who makes a durable blackout kit?

Hey guys,

I recently bought the static cling blackout kit from Ecklers for the 'vette as a temporary solution to see if I would even like the look of the blackouts in person. Needless to say, I absolutely love the way blackouts look on Millenium Yellow.

However, the static clings arent the prettiest of blackouts, and IMO look like a mess up close.

So the question is, where can I find a good set of blackouts (screw-in, adhesive, whatever)? I don't quite have the funds nor the time without lights to send mine off to be tinted, nor the funds for the black cherry halos (which look amazing). So where's a good blackout set for the lights all over the car from the $90-200 range?

Thanks in advance guys
chase.

Forget the $200.00

I got hard acrylic screw-ins...FULL SEVEN PIECE SET for $45.00 before shipping on EBay. Game, set and match. Forget the vendors. They sell the same thing for...see above link....

Hmmm, I'd be interested also, but also in the link below, they state they need your "light housings" for a week turn around, I don't want to do that either, so the search is still on.

CharlieB1979....Thanks. I see you posted the link.

$45.00 before shipping, hard, durable blackout kit that shows the lights through when you hit the brakes or reverse.

How do I know? I bought it myself.

I got the first set of the Black Cherry Halo's from Richard and they are still working as new, but that is what you expect from LEDs

To think the C6 is in the 5 year now and they do not have anyting like these yet and Richard you need to make these for the C6 as I want a set

I wanted a non-permanent option so I bought some vinyl tint from ebay and installed it myself. I think it looks great and if I ever get hassled or don't like the looks (yeah right ) I can always take it off.
If I had lots of cash, I would get the corvette enhancements though!!

This is what the above ebay covers look like. I bought from the same person when i was looking for a set. They fit nice and looked ok. I did not like the fact they were really hard to keep clean and showed dust and swirls from cleaning really bad.

I since have switched out and had forum member Tyler@Stealthvettes tint a set for me. Tyler does a real nice job and will do an exchange with you if you like.

This is the look now with my new tinted blackout look

another pic for you of my tinted side marker lights

The front turn signal covers are from GS Creations and screens are black powder coated from RAcemesh

I originally had the acrylic ones that Crazy Cowboy ( I think that's who) sells. They were nice, but as you can see in above pics, the acrylic styled blackouts to me just look a little odd due to the size being that much larger than what they're covering. They do the job adequately, but don't offer that true FINISHED look IMO.

Do yourself a favor. Spend the money, talk to Richard at Corvette Enhancements (username C5VetteLS1), and get his FULL blackout kit (front turn signals, rear side markers, Tail lights, third brake light, license place mount).

Do it once, do it right.

i would tint them, i have tad the acrylic kind and they look like *** compared to tinted.

If you dont have time to send yours off you could allways pay the core charge and then when you recieve the tinted lights return your stock ones and get your core charge back

Thanks for the input everyone, it seems like it all rolls down to personal preference (as always)!

aggiez28, I might actually do that! I can't find anywhere on their site that speaks of a core charge or anything similar, have any idea where to find out?

thanks again for everyone's input

I had the same issue.
REARS
first : clings to see if i liked the look.

second: gs creations (good company otherwise), screw in, BUT flat black acrylic lost the SHAPE of lense - these are the ebay ones. You can buy mine used. I never even installed them. Held it up... saw that you can see (his pic above) the edge of the acrylic from all angles.. looks like covers.. i think it looks cheap.

third: Mid America (who i dont usually like) makes some kick *** rear black outs. THey curve around the shape of the red lights and just dbl adhesive industrial platics velcro on. AND you can use the tail light flush mount kits with this black out set, and it looks perfect.

IMHO unless you are paying to have the actual lenses tinted themselves for big $$$ the best option is the mid america kit.

FRONT BUMPER
Gs Creations kit is an easy no brainer and very inexpensive for the front 2 corner bumper lights.

SIDE MARKERS
You really have no choice here, you have to get a whole new like like shown above. THe actual tint ones... everythign else looks like crap. OR you get teh replacement ones that you paint to match the car, they flush mount and you can get a logo etc in them. DO a search for them, they are pretty neat, esp on a black car!

I picked up a set of taillight and front corner covers from Mid America Motorworks and have been very happy with them. They are the hard acryllic type and are very durable in my opinion. For the price, I can't imagine there's anything much better. That said, I do love the cherry LED option that several others have but my budget just won't allow it.

Anyway - the front covers are great and just slip into the body molding around the light cover - beautiful design. I customized the rears a little becuase I didn't like seeing the DS adhesive tape through the lens. I took a drill and drilled holes through the acrylic covers where the screws are that hold the taillight assembly in and just bought some longer, black powder coated screws and. I think it looks great - but like you said, it's mostly about personal preference like everything else on here.

If you want - I can post some pics, I just don't have any at the current moment.

Very nice! I'm actually leaning very heavily towards the Mid America kit right now. I'd love to see some pics, but absolutely no rush on them whatsoever!

Corvette Enhancements blackouts are NOT VHT. Richard and I spoke about that 1.5 years ago when I ordered mine as it was a concern of mine.
