anyone know of a company that makes a bicycle rack? or any ideas on how to make one? i jsut bought a new bicycle and I want to drive to a trail to ride. any ideas??
Not a good idea. Had one on a C3 when I went to school in Florida. Had to get the back of the car repainted. Thought I was being carefull-not carefull enough. I wouldn't try it again.
I posed this same question when I was planning a trip to Florida and wanted to take the bikes along. The trailer receiver idea was tossed out there, but the thought was so scary, I just decided to rent a tandem bike when we got there.
If the Vette is your only car, you may find friends who have better ways to transport your bike to the trail... assuming the trail is relatively local...
If you just want to be seen transporting the bike with the Vette, then the trailer receiver may meet your needs, but the only place I've seen for the receiver to be mounted is the open space between the exhaust pipes, where many of us put an exhaust plate. I would be a little skeptic of it holding the shifting, bouncing, and wind resistance of the bike and the bike rack.
There are 2 companies that make receiver type hitches, (Draw Tite and Curtis) You can buy these hitches online shipped for under $150 and they can be installed in less than an hour. You can hide the receiver with one of those SS plates exhaust enhancer plates welded or stuck with 3M tape to a cutoff ballmount. Once you've got the receiver type hitch there are a number of bicycle racks made for them.
I never seen Corvette carried Bicycle but in Southern California I saw someone carried the surfboard on the passenger side near the beach of Pacific coast HWY.
