Default TMPS not working

I recently had after market tires put on my 2004 C5. All the sensors were working. About a week later, I got the service error and first the front sensors went out and then the back sensors followed about 2 minutes later. I tried to retrain them myself and could not get the LF to chirp. I took it back to where I had the tires put on and they got the same thing....all the others would chirp but the LF. I was told I needed a new sensor. When they pulled the tire off and checked the LF sensor they checked it before they replaced it and it worked. But then the RF would not work. Pulled it and checked it and it worked. Bottom line is, I cannot get all 4 sensors to reset. Any suggestions?

You may have to retrain all 4 sensors in the correct order sequence.

Left Front
Right Front
Right Rear
Left Rear

If this doesn't work, one or more of the sensors may have been damaged during the tire mounting.

Doesn't that process require a really strong magnet?

Do a search here for sensor reset. There is several post about this.

Not particularly. I use a 1x2x1/4 inch 99 cent Radio Shack magnet.

That is where the problem started. Could not get the LF to reset using a large magnet so I could not retrain the rest of them. That is why I took it to someone who has the "proper" training tool. Still can't get the LF to chirp and it was tested with the tire off and it worked....I know the sensors are independant of each other. Is there some other factor I should consider?

Are they the original sensors? I am thinking maybe the LF one is starting to get weak, and that the construction of the new tires may just be different enough that a weak signal from the sensor is being degraded further than it was with your old tires. Since the sensors on the 04s are a little more reasonable than the old style, it may be worth getting at least 1 new one, although if one is getting weak, the other 3 will not be far behind...

No retrain = dead/weak sensor, Gene has decent prices on new ones and I will buy your old one(s)

One quick thought. I had new sensors put in for some snow tires I had mounted no a second set of wheels (no comments!!) and they wouldn't train. I had some aftermarket chrome valve stem caps with Vette logos on them. Took those off and all 4 chirped within seconds of being hit with the magnet. Put caps back no and pressure reads perfectly. Just a thought in case it happens in the future.
