Greetings

I just purchased a 2001 Corvette Coupe (See Avatar) and am preparing to modify it by installing an X-Pipe and Catback exhaust.

I'm really green as far as getting my hands dirty, so I'm asking you guys for some insight.

When installing the X-Pipe, is it necessary to pull the engine?

I was pretty sure it wasn't, but a co-worker my dad knows said otherwise.

Anyway, your insight is welcome and appreciated.

I would suggest taking your car and the system to a local muffler shop. They can install for $100 or so.

Do a yahoo/google search on installing exhaust on a C5, there is a sight floating around the net on exactly what youre talking about. They did not have to remove the engine, although you will need to remove a few accessory pieces. A buddy of mine runs a shop in Pacific, Wa, hes saying its easier to remove an engine mount. Good luck.

Great advice but I'd pay money to WATCH Dad's co-worker do the install.

Pull the engine? Now that's a helpful comment from someone who knows absolutely nothing!

Default x-pipe

which pipe is better the x-pipe or the h-pipe. I read that the sound of the h-pipe is more of a muscle car sound the x-pipe is more of a Eurooean sports car sound. Does anyone have any further information?

I would not put on the x-pipe. It will quiet the original intended sound of whatever after market muffler you put on.

Go to a vette hang out and listen to other exhaust systems before purchasing or go on youtube and listen.

If you like the indy scream sound go with a corsa indy exhaust no xpipe

If you want a deeper sound then perhaps bullets.

x-pipe will add some flow and smooth out the tone thus causing it to sound a bit quieter. It will also assist with removing any gurrgle or acceleration popping.

The real problem with installing a catback exhaust is getting the car high enough in the air to remove the stock system without cutting the pipes. There is lots of info on here about how it's done.....If you are somewhat handy with tools and enjoy the satisfaction of doing it yourself then do some research and git'er done. Else take it to the muffler shop and have it done.

And whomever said remove the engine is a friggin' idiot.

I realized i wrote removing the engine mount, i meant for the headers. I guess i read through the OP thread too fast and thought id read he wanted to put on headers. But like everyone else is saying, absolutely no need to mess with the engine. "Cat-Back Exhaust" Nothing to do with whats in front of the cat.
