Do a yahoo/google search on installing exhaust on a C5, there is a sight floating around the net on exactly what youre talking about. They did not have to remove the engine, although you will need to remove a few accessory pieces. A buddy of mine runs a shop in Pacific, Wa, hes saying its easier to remove an engine mount. x-pipe will add some flow and smooth out the tone thus causing it to sound a bit quieter. It will also assist with removing any gurrgle or acceleration popping.
The real problem with installing a catback exhaust is getting the car high enough in the air to remove the stock system without cutting the pipes. There is lots of info on here about how it's done.....If you are somewhat handy with tools and enjoy the satisfaction of doing it yourself then do some research and git'er done. Else take it to the muffler shop and have it done.
And whomever said remove the engine is a friggin' idiot.
I realized i wrote removing the engine mount, i meant for the headers. I guess i read through the OP thread too fast and thought id read he wanted to put on headers. But like everyone else is saying, absolutely no need to mess with the engine. "Cat-Back Exhaust" Nothing to do with whats in front of the cat.
