Default Cooling Fans

2002 Z06. At what temp do the cooling fans turn on? It will get to 235 on the gauge, then it seems to cool down from there, to about 225. I dont hear the fans from inside the car, are they loud? This seems hot to me! I'm in Phoenix and its HOT! This is midday with the AC blasting! I didn't get the owners manual with the car. Thanks John

That's pretty normal our cars run HOT. you can with a tuner program set the fans to come on and off at a lower temp and this can help a bit with keeping the car cooler, at least at times. it's no worry though, just the way it is.

From the Service Manual ....

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

Note that while the manual uses the singular, there are two fans on the car and they run together at the commanded speed .... in other words if the PCM is commanding HIGH speed operation, both fans run in HIGH.

Your temperatures are normal for the kind of heat you are driving in.

Mine does the same thing... hits 235 then cools down. Never had any issues.
