My vette is DEAD! in the garage but dead. Was fine Saturday and rode it all morning but come to Sunday? Not a peep out of it!
I want to take the OPTIMA battery off so I can take it for a replacement and thought it would be easy? It's well tight and I see the 2 screws, but is there something else holding it so tight?
There is a bolt holding it down at the bottom with a black plastic piece. Look on the front side of the battery right in the middle with a flashlight and you will see it . You will need a long socket extension to get to it. Don't drop it!

Like the man said. Don't drop it.
Also make sure you replace it or it will bounce around in there like a BB in a boxcar.
If you don't have a really long extension, a 6" + 3" extension should work. Also to keep from dropping the bolt, you can wrap the end of the socket in electrical tape like so:
The electrical tape technique can also be used with spark plugs if you don't have a specialized spark plug socket.
Syl, if you haven't gotten it out yet, either Stephen or I will swing by your house today to help.
Thank you all! My computer froze last night!
Jason, I see the bolt in front of the battery and all but.. I do not have any tools but 'players"?? Ok Jason, I take you up on this offer and very nice of you to offer this. What time is best for you to swing by the house? ... But do I have to get you some bananas first?
Sorry... had to say that. My red top lasted less than a year. There will never be one in anything I own again. Replaced it with an AC Delco C6Z battery (not sure if it is the same part number as the C5 or not) and it is working like a champ. I have a feeling it will way outlast the Optima. It's almost there already!
Mine had same issue. Drove it one day, next day wouldnt crank at all, I mean dead battery. Replaced it in minutes after quick visit to auto parts store.

That should be all that is holding it in besides the battery cables.

Well guys.. I'm getting the RED TOP OPTIMA.. It has worked well for me. I bought this one back in APRIL 2004.. and it just died? 4 full years and worked like a champ!! NO problems.. (knock on wood!)
After 4yrs I have $60 credit towards a new one?? Can't beat that either. For so, I'm picking up a new one today..

NOw.. dont' jink me!!
If you are not going to drive it often, you may want to use a float charger to keep it from going dead - then again, it is always a good excuse to get Jason and Stephen over to visit.
