Default Question about my Z06 trunk.....

Hey everybody, I'm new to the forum. I just got myself an 04 Z06 with 18,000 km's on the clock. Anyways, I was just curious how much your trunk pops up when you push the button to unlatch it. Mine doesn't seem to come up at all, it maybe moves 1/2 a centimeter and I have to get my pinky finger under it to lift it up. I also just close the door with the windows up and it pops the trunk up, which seems to be where it should go. Any pics of your trunk, with the button just pushed would be great, I still have warranty so I am going to get it fixed if it is a problem. Thanks in advance, oh yeah I know how much you guys like pictures, so when I can post some pics I will.

Welcome to the forum! Nice choice of car and color, too... I have a black Z06 as well.

The issue you've mentioned is very common to most C5's (except the coupes which don't have the deck lid like we do).

I don't remember the exact causes for why the lid doesn't pop open far enough; however there are some EASY, permanent fixes! The one I employed was using the C5 Trunk Popper kit: Below is a writeup I did on the install (which was insanely simple, even the monkey in my avatar could do it):

Hope that helps you out!

Just went out & popped mine. It opened about an inch. Plenty of room to get my fingers under to open it. They have 2 piston like arms that must be under load to open it. Suggest one of yours has lost some of it's pop.

My fingers barely fit to open the trunk. It helps to close the drivers door and the trunk will lift up about another two inches.

Default Almost no decklid movement.

Mine is same as yours, push the button and it moves an very small amount. Not nearly enough to get my fingers under it. I worry about scratches anyway so I just do the same thing the other poster said. Pop the trunk then just open and shut the door with the windows up and it pops it up that little distance. My 02 has about 40k miles on it and is a well treated and garaged car so I know it's not a worn out part, I just assumed they were all that way.

Just bought a trunk popper myself after reading this thread. I could go to the hardware store and DIY it for less, but with gas prices (and being lazy) I wouldn't save much when all was said and done. Today was the last straw. I was putting my clubs in the back after a round of golf. I came up from behind the car so I didn't do my usual "shut the door" thing. While trying to get my fingers in the tiny little gap, my bag slipped and took a nice big scratch out of the rear fascia. Good news is I have a Spectre-Werks rear sitting at the body shop and the whole car is going for paint Aug 4th so I was able to laugh at it.

P.S. WAY off topic, but the new Taylor Made Tour Burner is freaking awesome! Today was my first day with it and WOW! :-)

Had this problem, also.

Fixed it with some white lithium grease on the hinge.

Pops up normal now..

This was my cure also, but I only had problems in cold weather (well, cold for Atlanta... 30's).
