Got into my car this morning and noticed a strange odor............crankrd it up and air came on and whoa......I turned up the fan speed and heard a loud thump followed by a few more and now the odor was the smell of death. I'm assuming a mouse or other critter has invaded my car but now what to do.........I parked the vette outside as it is going to be 100 here today..........maybe it will BBQ as thats a smell I could stand..LOL. any idea's on cleaning this up.....it sounds like it is in the blower motor area but have no idea where or how I get to it.........where is the fresh air intake located for the AC ducts? I can stand some jokes but go easy.......this is a serious problem to me.

Bob the same thing happened to me 2 months ago. The smell was awful and it drove me crazy and made me sick. I did not know what to do, either. I tried to find a way to get to "whatever it was" and remove it, but there was no easy way and I didn't feel like a massive disassemble.
So...I waited. And I'm glad to say the stench finally went away. It took about 10 days or so. Maybe your BBQ strategy will help speed it up. Good luck!
Sorry to hear about Mikey's death. The fresh air vent is the cowl plate by you wipers. There is a recirculation vent under the dash on the passanger side.
As far as the blower I believe it is under the dash (behind the glove box) on the passanger side. Some with more knowledge will jump in soon.
Eh... I'd park it in the garage with the top out, windows down, and hatch up to prevent much if the smell from staying in the car. Then you'll need to get at the blower motor, might require dash removal, but I've never had to get in there. The dash is the one part of my car I've never taken off.
Thanks to this great forum...........I removed the blower and there it was in the squirell cage (Might consider naming mine after him the "Mouse Cage") must have died in the duct and got sucked into the cage when I turned it on this morning. I got the DIY on this forum and it took about an hour to remove the blower........sprayed and cleaned the cage with odor ban mixed with lysol and the ducts I could get to. Not sure who to thank for the thread but apparently this has happened to others and in fact he posted pictures. I didn't have my camera available so guess I'll just give him a proper burial and have a good story with a happy ending to share.

Hows about a link to it? Or did I miss it somewhere. I'd like to know how to get to the blower fan myself!
When I was at college I made up a story similar to this to get out of a parking ticket:
I am writing this appeal to inform you of the circumstances that occurred prior and up to the time I received my parking violation. As I was driving to class I began to smell an unbearable scent coming out of my vents. The smell increasingly worsened the closer I got to campus. As I entered Oneonta Campus I pulled over to the side of the road to examine under my hood. I began to become afraid thinking maybe some wires were catching on fire, this is the reason for causing me to pullover. As I looked at my electrical I noticed that was not the reason. I then quickly and surprisingly noticed what it was. There was a deceased mouse wedged along the side of my engine block. I knew I had t clear this away and clean it up as quickly as possible in order for the smell to vacate my vehicle before my next class. This is when I made the decision to go to Mills to get napkins and some water so I could clean away the mess. I knew that parking at Grant Hall was illegal according to my parking pass status but I felt I had to make the decision and park it there so I could quickly run into Mills and get napkins. As I came outside I noticed the UPD car pulling away. I knew at that time what just happened. I quickly went to the UPD department, approximately 2minutes after I received the ticket and approximately 10 minutes prior to entering Mills, where I was told to fill this form out. I hope that you can understand my unfortunate predicament and realize that the only reason why I parked where I did was because I felt this situation was an emergency and had to be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Wow, what a load of crap!
I used to park "illegally" on campus to position my car for cutting class without my last instructor seeing me ditch for $2 pitchers at the local bar. Never bothered to go through "surprisingly" and "vacate" and "predicament" and all that...I just took the hit and went to drink beer.
