Well you can guess where this post is going... cruised home from work with the top off feeling like a bad ***, high on life and how great it is to own such a sweet car.
Got dark out and I went to get some groceries...threw the top on then put something in the house then went to leave...forgot to latch the top.... got up to 40 and she blew right off. First car swerved and missed it. I pulled over asap and ran down the road waving my arms but the 2nd car didnt see it because it was dark and painted side down...
I'm not sure what is worse... having to shell out 1000 for a new top or the abuse I'm going to take from my wife about this. F*** this is embarrassing and depressing.
Luckily no damage the car that ran over my top and no one was injured or anything. The metal piece between the latches broke clean off so I have a nice whistling noise now with the top on. Still has the normal shape. The paint is scratched to hell though and the corner has a rip in the fiberglass.
I'm going up north on vacation tomorrow for 10 days... I won't even want to park the car anywhere in public. ANd I have to figure out the most cost effective way to get a new top...
this just happened to a friend of mine... he lucked out and it landed panted side up, he put a few small scatches on the inside of the top that he was able to repair the black inside
Give your insurance agent a call. You'll probably be happy to hear it's covered under your comprehensive plan.
FRC Veteran, here! I know that sinking feeling all to well. Don't you feel like, "What's next, curbed wheel? Rear-end somebody? Somebody rear-end me???"
