Default Thoughts on an auto....

Been looking at C5's to buy, and was wondering what your guys opinion was on getting a C5 Auto instead of a m6?

Truth be told im not really into the car just because its fast, there were many factors leading me in the direction of the vette. And I've noticed often times you can scoop up much better deals on Autos that the M6, and price does tend to be a bit of a factor/obstacle for me right now.

But at the end of the day, at 19 years old I have a rather hard time stumaching the idea of my first sports car, especially a vette not being a stick... Maybe if i was 40 or so I'd have an easier time getting an auto lol.

Whats your take on getting an auto in a vette?

I think that may be a law along with moving to Florida when you get old.

If you think you want an M6, then wait and get an M6 when you have the money. If you want an M6 and get an A4, you will regret it after a couple of months. Personally, I think both are fun to drive.....but then I'm almost 40.

Typical response.

A4's are no less fun to drive. Some people either can't drive a manual for whatever reason or simply don't want to.

A Corvette is a Corvette. Shouldn't matter what kind of transmission it has. It's all a matter of preference for the buyer.

Can't get no respect. But usually I tell younger guys, hope you live as long as me.....

I don't think asking someone will help you decide, it's something you have to drive, and, or, have a desire for, M6 or A4.

The only way to know. Get what you really want. If you have to wait awhile it might help you out with the price when the weather cools off.

Have a modified A4. More mods in the works. Point and shoot at the drag strip. Drive around many manuals at the strip and still fun on the street.

I missed the part in the owner's manual about autos only being for old people. Unless you are going to the track or can't find any reason why you must have a stick, other than adrenilin or ego, then go for it. Autos are just fine and the auto put in the C5 are excellent units.
Comments about autos only for old people make about as much sense as the dude a few days ago who said real men don't drive Corvettes with catalytic converters. Phoey. Don't let your youth and inocence get too influenced but the purists on this forum. Buy what ever you want, not by peer pressure, and enjoy the hell out of it! And congrats on only being 19 and getting a Vette!

Personally, I prefer a stick sports car and I bought mine for the deal I got. That being said, there are advantages to the auto. Like I said point and shoot at the drag strip. I run a stock converter and am still getting quicker. You can put headers, high stall converter, vararam and a cam and put a hurt on most of the 6 speeds out there.

I grew up with manual transmissions.

As far as the Vette, I had a 98 that was stick, loved it

I now have a 2001 that is an automatic, and 3:15 rear, love it.

If I had to vote, I would say the stick, but believe me the auto with lower ratio rear is a blast. Some day it may be 3:43 rear.

good luck sorting it out.

I'm fortunate enough to have both. I have a 6sp 2000 vert and an A4 1998 Vert Pace Car. I've had the 2000 for 4 years, the '98 I just got 2 months ago. I was shocked at the performance difference. And I'm an old guy at 41...

Get the 6sp. With all due respect, there is no comparison.

Humm, I thought I was having fun. And I know I'm not old or a guy. I can drive a stick just fine (my dad had an old farm truck with a 3 speed on the column - I could drive that too). I prefer the auto.
