My passenger side head light did not pop up tonight on two attempts. It did pop on the third try, and it tested good about 10 times. It has 40,000 miles. Was this just a freak thing, or do the gears go bad that early?
Where is a good place to buy the gears and instructions?
Thanks.
The original gear is plastic. Rebuild kits and how to's can be found on the forum, just do a search. My 2000 lasted 70k before starting to make a loud noise.
Got mine from rodneydickman.com. I decided to go ahead and get the pair. It is good kit but took me awhile to figure out how to get the headlight assembly out the first time.
Cost is about $90 for the pair. It sure beats the dealership price for new at north of $200.

I have done the gear replacement and sometimes mine still doesn't pop up. If I open the hood and give it a twist or 2 on the manual open/close ****, it opens just fine. It's almost like it goes down too far and can't get itself back open unless I get it started manually. Weird huh?
mine did the same thing this weekend. no sound at all from the pass side motor. I did a search and am going to check the grounds behind the headlight and then the control module.

There are a couple of usual causes to headlamp problems. The gears of course but you will hear the motor. Another is if the lamps don't turn on at all (no illumination), then check or cycle the headlamp switch as they tend to go bad. Next is if the headlamps turn on, but don't rise...that's usually the headlamp control module located at the right forward frame rail.
