Yep, heat/soundproofing. I'm also making a partition. The plan is to soundproof the hell out of the partition and everything in front of it. I'm using a layer of Accumat (like Dynamat, but much cheaper) followed by 2 layers of Frost King. Behind the partition, I'm actually going to reduce the insulation by getting rid of everything but the top layer of the factory carpet. This way, when I want a quiet ride, I'll have the partition up, and when I'm in the mood, I can drop the partition and get a quick reminder on why I started this project . I plan on doing the sound system while I've got everything torn out, or at least getting the wiring ready for it.
I'm still shopping around for a head unit. These are likely candidates:
Ended up going with the Clarion. Here are some pictures I took mid-project. It's 90% complete now, but I wrapped things up at 2am tonight and was too tired to take pictures.
Everything is in the car and functional right now. I'm gonna enjoy it like that for a few days before I pull the seats, center console, and sub box back out to get it all wrapped in black leather and suede with red stitching.
Needless to say, my wallet has taken a good beating this past week
PatrickCarter: yeah, out of sight. you can tuck it under or behind the seat and run the wires to the head unit. http://clarion.com/us/en/products/20...385078067.html By the way, don't let Clarion's prices scare you off. If you look hard enough, you can find this stuff for half of MSRP.
Ryan L: I wasn't. lol. The driver's side is in with Sparco mounts. Needless to say, they're coming out. The sparco bases are complete TRASH. I'm cutting all the legs off of the sparco bases and making it one flat piece. Luckily, the sparco has holes that line up with both the stock c5 seats and the recaro seats, so I'm just going to sandwich it in between. So, stock seat mounts and rails bolted to whats left of the sparco base bolted to the seat.
bucwheat: It's 1 layer of open-cell foam and 1 layer of foil. It's 1/8" thick versus 3/16" for the precut kits they sell. That's why I did up to 4 layers in some areas .
PatrickCarter: Only the driver's side is in so far, and I haven't taken any new pictures. Neither seat fits right yet. Sparco's seat base designers are the most incompetent idiots ever, so it's gonna take me another day or two to make things work right. By the way, I mentioned earlier that they were out of an Evo IX. I might be wrong about that. It's whatever Evo was out in 2003, I think. Either way, they're comfortable and I love em. Except that they are ugly, haha. But reupholstering will fix that.
