I have a 2000 vert.....Sometimes it wont start. It says low voltage but ive been to advance twice and the say that the battery is fine! Is that because i jumped it off before i went? I dont know anything about cars, im just a 19 year old with a vette. I got a new starter put on it about 2 weeks ago. Im just lost. Sometimes itll start after like 3 tries. And it always makes a lil ticking noise and then finally starts up so im just lost. I looked up all and didnt see anything that looked weird. Any thoughts? Pretty embarrassing to go out in public in a beautiful car and wont start up ya know? Especially being a 19 year old african american lol people probably think im stealing it or something until they figure out who I am.
I had a problem like that with our 01 vert. I figured that I had a battery drain coming from somewhere & I was given some advice from here that it would be a grounding problem. I replaced the battery & then took the grounding connectors loose (under the hood & mounted to each frame rail) & cleaned them. If I can find the link to the thread I will post it.
bump for ya... There are folks on here that can help for sure. I am one of the ignorant ones so I apologize but a bump to the top is all I can really offer.
Other than that... Do you know the age of the battery? Don't want to suggest shooting in the dark but maybe its old and needs replacing... If you do I know folks recommend certain types around here. I don't know the names.
Clean your battery connections and since you worked on the starter, make sure that connection is clean and tight as well.. disconnect the negative cable to the battery first before working on the starter cable. Now, between the battery and the engine compartment fuse box, there is a major ground connection there. Make sure its not loose.
I'd suggest you take it back to whoever did the starter install and have them check their work. They'll probably find a loose wire on/near the starter.

When the car is running, look at your volt meter. A reading of about 13.5 would indicate that the charging system is working properly. If it's lower than that, it could be that the batter is not charging. If that is the case and you charge the battery before taking it to be checked, it will check out just fine.
Another possibility is that you have a poor connections either at the battery or somewhere else.

One other thought, you have a resistor on your key for the security system. If the resistor gets dirty, the resistance changes. Try cleaning it well with alcohol or gently rubbing a pencil eraser over it and then wiping off to clean.

Do you have an auto tranny or a MN6 tranny?
When its running, its reading 13.5. So there may be a loose connection somewhere else.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. Again, i dont know anything about cars but im gonna get the guy that put the new starter in, to check it all out tomorrow. Thanks a lot, God Bless you guys

Here is a great post with pictures. I'd bet dollars to donuts it is a faulty ground causing the drain off. Especially those multipack ground connectors. They seem to have major issues with corrosion.
