I've done a search and tried everything to figure this out. The tire pressure sensors were working fine with the previous wheels I had. But after purchasing new rims and tires and had the sensors installed on the new setup i've had nothing but issues lately.
At first the sensors were reading all my tires as being really low, I checked the pressure of all tires manually and noticed they were all around 35psi... so after trying to do a complete tire pressure sensor re-program process (going through the options on the DIC and using a magnet on the sensors) I got all the pressure sensors to read the correct psi besides the rear sensors now. My one sensor in the rear isn't even displaying a psi reading anymore and during the re-program process I couldn't get the rears to reprogram. So now i've been looking around on ebay and should I just pickup 2 new sensors for the rear and have them installed? Is there any specific sensors I should be looking for, or will the 01-04 sensors work with my corvette?
You need 97-2000 tire pressure sensors for your 99. Could be the tire installed broke your TPSs or it could be it was just their time to die. On Ebay there is a "kit" with 4 TPSs, 2 fobs and a reciever for $350, but they are a foreign setup, ie different than US Corvettes, so if you ever needed a new TPS or FOB you would have to buy the foreign ones again. Good Luck. I'm about to change my wheels and I hope I don't have this problem.... D
Yeah i'm definitely not looking to spend that kind of money for a whole new TPS setup, but I guess i'll just try and get 2 new TPS sensors and see what happens. Or do I have to buy a whole new kit? Hopefully I won't run into problems purchasing 2 sensors and getting them to display on my vette... I seem to always run into the little problems.
Check with Gene at GMPartsHouse - forum sponsor. He's had great prices on them for new GM product. You can also get new batteries - there are a couple of forum members who do this.
They last about 7-10 years, so if original they may just be dying. However, when they die, they typically just stop talking, and you get an error on the DIC showing pressure as --- (if I remember right).
Not cheap, but better than having to guess. But do make sure any tire shop you deal with knows about the runflat tires, and the sensors. I use a couple of really good shops, but always remind them about the sensors. Possible to break one pretty easily if they aren't watching.
Well hopefully I only have to replace one since it's not showing up, the other one is just completely off but after reprogramming it hopefully it reads correct.
As I told another forum member, my 2000 C5 STILL has the 20 year old sensors, and they all work fine!! I may have gotten a good set of batteries, but all 4? I usually don't have that kind of luck. Before I get hammered on this, please note my car has been stored every Winter here in Michigan, which almost always sees multiple below zero readings. I kept the garage heated only to 45°. I then stopped heating altogether due to the mice liking 45° much more than -10°F! I wonder if it has to be because they only transmit when moving more than 10-15mph. Seeing as how expensive they are compared to the '01-'04 sensors, that's a very good thing......
I also recently had trouble getting the left rear to program. Second try it went fine. Maybe the 20 year old batteries are finally showing their age.....
