Okay, if I have a base/stock radio in my 98 Coupe with no CD slot, no changer, etc. What do I need to install a changer? Will it just plug and play? I was told (ironically by a guy wanting to sell me his changer) that it was just a matter of mounting the changer and plugging it into my existing HU. Too easy??
I've installed three (3) 12 disc CD changers in C5s. But all had a Bose head w/single CD ( 1999 Coupe,2000FRC,2001 Z06) All had the connection at the kickpanel on the passenger side. Those were plug and play. Can't tell ya anymore than that buddy.
Easy, but you need to buy and install the harness that runs from the footwell to the center storage compartment. If you don't travel a lot, just get a single slot cd head unit. They come up for sale in the parts section all the time.

I agree, and if you want more get an auxiliary jack so you can connect an external player (like an iPod)
I had the same setup on my '97, and I bought a gently used Delco CD head unit and Delco 12 disc changer (new). The head unit is a direct plug and play. If you retain your current head unit with the cassette player, it is still capable of accepting and playing the changer. As noted above, you will need to buy the cable that goes from the passenger footwell to the rear compartment. I recommend buying the appropriate Delco cable, which you can find for a reasonable price by doing an Internet search. It is important to note that your '98 (like my '97) likely does NOT have both of the required plugs in the footwell for the changer cable. Later models generally will have both plugs. Mine had only one plug, so I needed to find instructions for locating which wire to tap into in the bundle in the footwell. I located good, detailed instructions by doing a forum search. I know it was a green wire. Once I found the wire and tapped into it, it worked perfectly and has been working just find now for about 3 years. Hope this helps.
THANK YOU!!! As always, this board is a wealth of information. I think I am leaning towards a stock HU with a single CD slot. I typically just listen to the radio anyways.
