Default 6 Speed shifter

Have any of you seen much advantage over the stock shifter in going to either a Hurst or B&M? They advertise 30-40% shorter throw. Anybody got em? My wife is going to have to learn how to drive this thing and I know she will have problems with the force it takes to get it into 1st and Reverse.

I'm in the market one myself. I tried the Hurst last weekend and although the shifts are positive and it's got a great feel, it does take some additional effort to shift as compared to a stock unit. I've heard good things about the C6 Z06 shifter - may go with that one.

I cut my stock shifter 1" and put mobile 1 synthetic ATF in the tranny. Personally I think it feels the best, and I have tried B&M and Hurst.

I have the C6Z06 shifter in my 01 and I love it. It's not as sloppy as the stock sfiter and the throws are solid. I got a new **** covered in the C5 black (the C6 black is a little lighter), a new boot, and I'm waiting on my new cusom painted cap. It's gonna look awesome!

I have Hurst
more precise, shorter throw BUT stiffer.
Many are now buying the C6 Z06 shifter claiming it is more precise, shorter ( but not as short as Hurst or MGW) but also smoother and requiring less effort

If you want to go that way get it from Gene a www.GMpartshouse.com

I put a C6 Z06 shifter in my 2000 Vert, the shifts are smooth as butter, and to make the throws even shorter, I had a local machine shop take 1 inch off the shifter, then put an 'old school' black cue-ball shift **** on it. It looks cool, it shifts incredibly well (and smooth) and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommended!

Go with the C6 version. Easy to install, easy to shift, shorter throw than stock and the wife type will be able to handle it easily.

There won't be a consensus this time it's asked, either...

I have the Hurst and my wife has no problems with it but then she's always preferred a manual tranny over an automatic.

If your wife is learning on the car it might be tougher with the Hurst.

Do a quick search on MGW shifters.

You could try this. Install the Hurst shifter and do the the anti-venom mod. You can get the "feel" of the shifter you want by using a different number of washers when installing the anti-venom mod. Do a search for this mod on the forum for details.

Im a B&M guy and am happy with it. definitely shorter than stock. a lot smoother than hurst imho. a lot of people on here are starting to swear by mgw. id definitely be interested to try one out if i can find somebody thats got one. B&M is a good product though, reverse is the only gear that requires a little extra force to get in to. not notchy at all though which is nice. ive got a hurst 8 ball **** on top of mine. good luck

Okay...the verdit is in... Hurst, B&M, MGW and C6 Z06 are the best...
I am gong to first try the anti-venom mod on my stock unit and if not happy with that, go to the C6 Z06.
Thanks to all for your input..

MGW...best you can buy and doesn't take that much effort to shift.

The MGW is a good shifter, I've tried it myself in one of my friends cars.. but honestly I like my B&M better.

The only thing with the BM shifter is yes, Reverse is a little bit harder.. once I had the shifter in for about 2 weeks... honestly, it is so positive, you can almost shift 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6th gears with two Fingers.

I've tried the Hurst too, and it was too stiff for my taste.

Don't get caught up in the Forum hype or band-wagon.. the MGW is newer so it's the latest "craze" around here... this is really a matter of personal taste just like exhaust sounds and wheels etc..

If you can try and sample another Forum member shifter to see how you like it. That's what I did, and that's why I got the B&M.
