Bought an '01 Z06 yesterday. The previous owner apparently decided to put some C6 Z06 wheels (repro I can only assume) on and go with some Goodyear EMT tires. I'm guessing since 265 and 295 aren't available in those tires he decided to go with 245 and 275 like the regular model. The tire inflation kit is gone. These tires are new so I should probably run them out, but when I get done should I slap the original size tires on these wheels? How can I tell if they are the correct width? Would it be stamped on them somewhere or just measure them?
It sounds from your description the repro's are the same size as the base C5 wheels which are 17x8.5 and 18x9.5. If the EMT tires have a funny squat look to them and it looks like the beads are stretched out to far then they may be the same size as the C5 Z wheels. To know for sure you will have to measure them. The C5 Z wheels are 17 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5.
Did some rough measuring with a tape measure and interestingly enough they appear to be 9.5 and 10.5 wheels, but have 245 and 275 tires mounted on them. I guess when these run flats wear out I can put the correct size on again.
When I bought my car, it had repro C6Z06 wheels on it. But it had the correct C5Z06 tire sizes. I didn't even know until I sold the wheels that they were base C5 width wheels. The size was printed on them somewhere. I sold them on the forum for enough that I was able to buy the correct size wheels I have now including shipping. The change cost me nothing. If I were you, I'd check the rim size for sure. If it's wrong OR you don't want the rims anyway, sell them right now with the newish tires while they are worth something. Some base C5 owner would LOVE to have that set. Why suffer with crappy performance and ride until they were out?
