Ok i work at a ford/chevy dealer. and we dont get to many nice cars there. and no one that works there has really ever ride in a fast car. We just got a trade in of a 2005 GTO with the LS2 but is a 4 speed automatic. it is 100% complietly stock. there were 2 techs that got to test drive it, and they kept sayin how fast it was and all kinds of that stuff. and i told them, yeah im sure it is pretty fast, but my corvette is faster. they do not belive me at all. i tried to explain to them but they just wouldnt listen. But maybe im way off base so heres my ? what do you guys think would win .....a completly stock 2005 LS2 GTO A-4 or my 1999 corvette 6-speed coupe with 3.42 diff, dual cone cold air intake (K&N i think) B&B bullet cat back exhaust and summit 25% underdrive pulley. I know the GTO still prolly has a few ponys on me, but im much lighter than he is, prolly 400 lbs or more, the GTO is about 3700 lbs
First off I've never seen a Ford/Chevy dealership, strange. Second, if you are a Chevy dealership, doesn't it sell Vettes?
I'm with this guy. I have lived in 6 different states and have never to this day encountered a Ford/ Chevy dealership. I have seen crummy used car dealerships that sell everything but the guys that work at those places wouldnt care to know the difference between a vette and a rustang.
Why wouldnt you just take those a$$ clowns for a ride and show them how it goes. If your fast , your fast period.
Honestly the race is going to be close with your current set up and that GTSLOW. Can you drive your car like it should be driven?
lol i guess i should have been more thurough. i work at osseo Ford. but the owner (nels gunderson) also owns Nels Gunderson Chevrolet. they are both certified ford and chevy dealers. Nels owns both, so when they built the buildings they literally put them 10 feet apart, so it is pretty much one bussiness. i know all of the ford workers, as well as the chevy ones. and when they are behind at the chevy store, i go work over there to catch them up and vise versa. and my twin brother also works at the chevy side!
AND yes we do sell vettes, but we have not gotten any trade in's or new ones in the last 2 years so no one has driven a c5 vette, or do i let them drive mine so they woudlnt know what a vette is like.
It's like asking do you think a unicorn can beat a 100 foot squid in a race. Just line them up, the JA in the auto GTO and you in your C5. Then let them rip.
The difference is the vette is yours and the GTO is the dealerships. You know what your driving home.

Unless you can launch and shift perfectly the GTO will pull you.
Sorry
Before I modded my Couple even the M12 ZO6 drivers were in my rear view because they could not get it off the line.
I just find it hard to agree with you. cuz with my setup i should be somwhere around 380 hp (im thinking) at the crank. and yes that is 20 hp shy, but his is only a 4 speed auto, and i am prolly 4 to 500 lbs lighter, and more areo dynamic and has much better grip. 20 hp more is not enough to make up this diference. and yes i know how to lauch it and shift properly.
You can't paper stat, or dyno bench race. It's false and not going to prove anything.
It's hard to put out good times unless you have practiced your launch and you have a good 60 foot reaction time. You may have a faster car on paper, but the track is whole different ball of wax. Lets not paint your car fast until you prove you can drive it.
The GTO just has to be held to the wood. The MN6 has to be driven. Know what I'm sayin?
I hear ya; but at my local dragstrip I see street drivers barely break into the 13's with a stock LS1 GTO; and barely reach 13.5 in a stock LS2 GTO.
Then I see street drivers run 13.3's in a stock LS1 C5. Sorry, I gotta believe my own eyes.
The LS2 GTO's running in the low 13's that I've seen either have drag radials and/or headers. Which is fine; that with such little modification they can run fantastic. But Corvettes can be modded in a similar fashion too
I'm going to call bs on all the guys that say that the LS2 GTOs are faster. I've raced two, and beaten two. I've run my vette to a 13.2@108 in hot weather. I ran it again for a single run at the same strip again in ****ty weather and with 13.2@106. I think it'll go 13.0 or maybe even eek into a 12.9.
If you can run the GTO, go from a roll and you'll get the better of him, I'd bet money on it. The vette's aerodynamics, and the 6 speed will give you the advantage.

FYI- The possibilites of a bad launch and aerodynamics are not going to do do squat for you in the 1/4 mile.
I love it when folks say a 6 speed will give you the advantage. If shifting gears with a clutch was so advantageous, dragsters wouldn't be automatics. IF YOU CAN'T DRIVE IT, YOUR DYNO SHEET IS WORTHLESS.
