I have an 02Z with 40k miles. I had some minor hail damage not long ago... looks like a few white flecks on the hood, headlights and roof. Also got the windshield but that's irrelevant to this question. I already have a GTR rear fascia sitting at my body shop. Insurance gave me $1600 after my deductible. The question is this... should I get it spot painted (roof, hood, tail, etc) or should I get the whole thing done? The majority of the car has flawless paint and I'm a little hesitant to have it done. Is Torch Red an easy color to match? On my red GTO I had a quarter painted by 2 reputable shops and neither could match it to my satisfaction even though it was only 2 years old. Any advice on this one? Thanks in advance.

I don't care what color you are painting, It seems like you can always tell what was repainted and what was not. It may look great the first year or so, But later down the line look out.
Paint match should not be an issue if a shop knows what it's doing and has the proper mixing equipment. Recommend you search for such a shop, then have them paint only the damaged panels. That's the most cost-effective and non-invasive solution. Good luck on whatever you decide.
Who's your body shop? Take it to Auto Elite off of Birdneck, the guys who just finished re-doing mine. They're amazing and if they can satisfy my picky-assed self they can satisfy anyone.
If you're installing a new rear facia, and fixing all that stuff I'd just go with a re-paint of the factory color.
That way they can leave the door jambs alone, and make the reast look pretty. Once you see my car next to a stock car and see how deep it w/o orange peel you'd be sold
Look how deep this paint is... and this is yellow!... a color not known for being deep.

I was actually having it done by Barry at Nansemond... correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's where Casey and Gary had theirs done. If he can do those 2, a factory red should be a piece of cake. Have either of them had anything bad to say about that place?? I think I am about 100% sure after a ton of looking that I am going to go with a full repaint with the factory torch red.
I do love the look of that yellow on yours in the pics. I was a little skeptical that a "different" yellow might look out of place, but from what I can see so far it just looks bada$$. I'm still jealous of your hood as well. I have looked for a DRM forever! It's actually a big reason that I have put off having it fixed for so long.
^ Can't say anything bad about Barry Yes, he's Gary, Casey, and Mike's go-to guy, and in retrospect I should have used him vs. the first jokers that I used. I've never had any work done by him though.
I chose Auto Elite becuase they have a reputation for working on the highest-end cars in our area: Vipers, Porsches, Exotics, etc.

Thanks for the compliments on the car.
Hopefully he becomes my go-to guy as well... FWIW he is about HALF of the price of everywhere else I looked for a full repaint. We'll see... she's going in on monday.
Well guys... I dropped it off at Nansemond this afternoon. I'm excited to get the GTR tail on it and see what kind of work Barry does. Funny thing happened today though. I went out to start my car to drive it to the shop, and for the first time ever it didn't start. After fiddling around with it, turns out it was the switch that senses the clutch is pushed before it will let it start. Hopefully this isn't a bad omen!
He's going to disassemble everything necessary to make it look right prior to painting. He really seems to know what he is doing and certainly seems to care about the work he puts out so I have high hopes. I'll be taking pics every few days to keep y'all updated. Hopefully nothing near the level of drama that Cobra4B has been posting!!!
^ Don't worry man... you won't have any drama with Barry doing it Plus, you're redoing a factory color so you don't have to worry about the door jambs etc... much less prep work to do.
