Back in my import days my friend had an autometer cobalt boost gauge on his 240sx...he was constantly having problems with it, just like you are describing.
He went through 3 until he eventually said to hell with it and switched out to something else.
FWIW I had an Autometer Phantom on my turbo Civic and never had problems with it.
interesting might just be just the cobalt series gauge. I had autometer boost gauges in both my RX-7s and never had a problem. However those were purely mechanical where this is electrical
nope I checked that. Blew on both ends and capped the other it holds.
It also would show some sort of vacuum or boost reading if that was the case where it doesnt move from 20 vacuum.
I called autometer today and got a new map sensor see if that solves it. I think it's the gauge.
the guy at autometer told me the map sensors are known for going bad. However I dont know if it's the map sensor...the gauge doesnt sweep like its supposet to either
If the map sensor was going bad/went bad, you would notice a drivability issue more-so than 20hg of vacuum.
That's not true, the map sensor is independent of the map sensor on the back of the intake manifold you are thinking of. It is only the boost/vacuum reference for the autometer gauge.
