I used the search and could not find anything to answer this exact question and to be honest...im lazy lol
Was adjusting my headlights vertically when the ball and socket popped out, so now the headlight is not connected there and the headlight moves because there is nothng holding it in. I tried to spin the adjuster and it spins fine, but the hex that is supposed to snap into the headlight wont come out at all, it just spins. Is there a gear or anything in there I could have stripped?
Now, the headlight wont lay flush anymore either with the cover on it, the right side of it sits a little higher.
the rod did not break at all, it still spins, its just that small ball that fits into the headlight which controls its up and down movement
that ball at the end of the screw on the top left is what im talking about. The rod turns, but I cant get that piece to move at all, and its all the way sucked in, so now I cant get it to clip back into the headlight.
If the brass rod turns and the ball doesnt move you have stripped the gears inside the housing.
Usually the housing breaks when this happens but it really doesnt matter since GM does not service the adjusters separately.
You may find some used parts on the forum, if not you will need the entire assembly. $$$$$$$$
Good luck
I just had this same thing happen last week while adjusing mine. I had "over adjusted" and the pulled the ball out of the socket. I turned the adjuster back a bit and pushed the ball back in the socket and everything was OK. Turned out I was turning the wrong adjuster any way. Good luck!
hmm, i hope it didnt strip inside but i think it did. I just cant get that ball to move back out either way I turn it. I overadjusted it and it just popped out when it first happened.
If I recall I had to hold the threaded rod with needle nose pliors so it would'nt turn while I backed out the adjustor. Then i was able to push the ball into the socket and regroup.
gonna try this tomorrow, ill let you know how it goes
thanks!
