active handling question...
Just wondered.
Michael

If you have Active Handling - it will say that above the button on the console. There is Active Handling which employs yaw sensors to determine if the car is about to swap ends. If yaw is detected, brake is applied to the opposite corner front wheel to attempt to correct the spin. The second component is traction control - which employs the wheel speed sensors to determine if the back wheels are spinning faster than the fronts. It will decrease throttle and apply brake to the fastest spinning wheels.
I didn't see what year your car was - but if it is a 2001 or newer, you have second generation A/H, which will allow you to put the car into competitive driving mode while rolling. If your car is a mid'98 to 2000, you have the first generation A/H, which means you have to bring the vehicle to a stop, touch the button to enter competitive driving....which disables traction control and keeps active handling enabled. Either one will display a message on the DIC saying COMPETITIVE DRVG MODE. This is what you want if you have to spin your tires and not lose all control of the vehicle.
If you hold the button down, you will disable A/H and T/C - and then you're on your own....good luck. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you really know what you're doing - and it doesn't sound like it when you say you've never spun your tires.
Oh - and BTW, this is explained in the owners manual.
What I actually meant to say was I've never spun the tires on THIS car. But thanks for the warning. I'll probably try it once, just to see if it will do it, and then go back to my active handling mode. With the price of these tires, it's not something I plan on making a habit of.
Thanks again.
