So Im driving home tonight and all of the sudden, the dash lights up
"Service Engine Soon" and the The traction light and abs light come one, and it feels like i lost power steering, so i pulled the codes and this is what i got
It may be poor grounds, dirty connectors, low voltage, or a combination of these. B2723 is a failure of the anti theft system to receive the correct resistance from the ignition key resistor. The P1571 is a problem with the torque control circuit which is part of the traction control. U 1040 is a communication failure in the traction control.
This happened to me RIGHT BEFORE leaving for a show on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City last year! After many hours of checking various locations, it finally ended up being two ground points on either side of the engine. These are pretty easy to get to and clean, so I would start there before checking both door wire harnesses. Good luck!
Go to C5 tech section. At the top is a sticky [important electrical information] by Bill Curlee. It is long but has all the information you should need.
p1571 might be normal...my 97 has this same thing but i was told all 97s always have this code set...maybe it was on mn6 97s...cant remember...all i know is it means nothing for my 97...might be the same story for your 98.
you can clear the 2723...hopefully it wont come back.
the TCS is a problem...you need to find out why it has no comm. might be a bad connection...
98blackonblack - Let me know what you find out. I having similar issue with my 98. ABS and Track control lights go on. TCS No Comm...and when the ABS/TCS are on - the power to the HVAC goes out (HVAC No Comm) - been wrestling with this a long time.
Alright checked all the grounds, everything seemed tight so i just wiggled the wires a lil, then crawled under teh back of the car and checked out the ebcm and sure enough the connector was a little loose
so i popped it out cleaned it up a little bit and popped it back in and presto no codes everything is back to normal
guess i hit a bump and knocked it loose.
Thanks guys, once again this forum has saved my ***.
I had the same loose connector on mine but it caused a steering position sensor code to pop up. I did the same thing as you...just pulled the plug, cleaned it and it works fine now!
Its obviously a problem with the early C5s because in the later gen C5s, they moved the EBTCM up to the front of te car, away from the elements of the road (salt, water, dirt...)
