Default Aftermarket CAM EXPERIENCES

i have seen alot of post concerning the use of big cams etc. so i will post my experience with my ok sized cam (relative) EG's WHIPLASH CAM
to maybe give people more knowledge or a thread to reasearch on not so much with just big cams but other people's experience with any aftermakert cams and results i think it would be an excellent sticky thread..... just a thought

oook!!!!
I love the cam i have excellent drivebility to tell ya the truth coupled with a stall i forget i even have a cam until im at a stop light and the car does the usual shimmy shake LOL i love it.
as far as performance when i had it
NA: low end wasn't a real big issue as the stall always put it right at the power band around 3200-3500 for me. then you could definitely feel the car come alive and destroy all LOL.

FI: well that's a totally different story.
stock engine wise with the cam package, usual boltons. 3.42 gears and stall (3200) and A&A supercharger. i never understood what people say about centrificals having no bottom end power band etc... but i tell ya what whenever i smash the gas pedal and the stall kicks it up to 3000 rpm i feel sorry for anybody trying to keep up that whiplash cam alone netted me around 100hp and 70tg. the top end on the car is unbelievable and the car doesn't bog or putt putt in any gear or anything.any more questions please feel free to ask i will do my best to answer them with honesty etc.. hell if your in my town i will take you for a ride or if you cant go to my youtube videos and check out some of the vids i cant post here lol http://www.youtube.com/user/dascorcha247

Interesting, yea it is such a complex topic. Cam Size, Tuner and their ability and style of tuning, other mods on the car, personal preference, driving style. Just so many variables.

Personally, I prefer cams that kick in before 3k rpm, but that is my driving style and prefernece. One thing I do really hate is when some vendors boast about HP from their cams, but they don't tell you WHEN or WHERE the power kicks in (this is not a knock on your particular post btw). Netting X amount of power from X cam is great...but if it starts making power at 5,000RPM.. for me, that is useless, and if you drive on the street alot you will not be happy and get your azz handed to you
I am running a comp cam 228/232 113LSA .588 .590 so not a big cam, but my power kicks in about 3200.. looking back, I wish I would have gone with a 111 or 110 and higher lift, then the power kicks in right at the start, much better for my driviing style..but again that is my experience.

i have a TSP 228R with LT's and all that stuff. Had a Doug Rippie Tune and it's driveability is great. Love the tune on it and pulls like crazy even down low. idk why people say they loose low end

I understand, also, your car is an A4 with a 3k stall, I am driving a MN6... which can also play a big part obviously in how the car drives and behaves.

yes you have more control over the car with the MN6 which usually makes it easier to tolerate big cams

In the eye of the beholder as they say...I prefer driving a car with great average power.
